In year-on-year comparisons, only the Independent's concise sibling, i, reported a rise in the quality section of the figures. The i overtook The Guardian for the first time with 243,321 copies, although its figure includes 47,145 giveaway bulk copies and there is a wide difference in cover prices.
There was growth across the board for the tabloids, including a near 9% lift at The Sun (2,751,219) and a 3% lift for the Sunday Mirror (1,753,202).
