Want to win a family membership to the Children’s Museum of Richmond for an entire year? Join us February 1 through March 2, as we explore weekly themes with Sid the Science Kid. Visit this page each week to find descriptions of Sid the Science Kid episodes and fun hands-on activities to do at home. Then enter the give-away for the Grand-Prize (a family membership for an entire year at CMoR) simply by answering some questions about the program. Each week we will have a new question, which means more opportunities to enter into the Grand-Prize drawing. Five runner-up prizes of family four-packs to CMoR and other Sid-themed prizes will also be awarded. A family four-pack consist of four admission tickets for a one-day visit to CMoR.

Sid learns about the science of light and how it comes from various energy sources. He also discovers some light sources, like the sun, can’t be turned off. Activity to do at home: Light Scavenger Hunt

Discovering Darkness” (Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 12:00 p.m. or Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 a.m.)
Sid and his friends investigate darkness and learn that it’s the result of the absence of light. They also discover that everything stays the same in the dark and that there’s no reason to be afraid of it. Activity to do at home: Cave of Darkness

Shadow Smile” (Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 12:00 p.m. or Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 a.m.)
Sid wonders why his shadow doesn’t smile when he does. So he and his pals investigate shadows at the Science Center and learn that shadows only show shapes, not details like colors, stripes or smiles. Activity to do at home: Shadow Investigation

Get Up and Move!” (Thursday, Feb. 9 at 12:00 p.m. or Friday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 a.m.)
