A number of the Made in the Middle exhibitors are diversifying their practice either through exploring new technologies or areas of work.
Ceramicist, Anna Collette Hunt is expanding an installation of ceramic beetles for the exhibition. Stirring the Swarm is a ceramic installation that tells a curiously dark tale and asks the viewer to step into the shoes of a baffled Entomologist who has been chasing the escaped swarm. Using a smart phone you can build your own beetle, adding to the swarm and visitors to the exhibition can unlock secrets using the QR codes hidden within the work.

Janette Matthews employs a combination of digital and hand techniques in her work for design and production. Janette creates her three-dimensional fabric designs by laser-processing as it would be impossible to achieve the precision of cutting on textiles by any other way. Here’s a film of the laser cutting process.

She then develops her designs further in Adobe Illustrator so Final lines can be laid out with pinpoint accuracy. The wood and coloured laminate is then cut with laser or a CNC router, grouping pieces of the same colour together.
