Episode 136 – Frank Jordan

by Tom Racine on February 9, 2012 at 7:10 pm

Frank Jordan, writer and artist of the always funny and often bleeding-edge envelope pushing “Company Man Comic” and I have a great talk about his strip, how he apparently isn’t aware of what the word “buffer” means, sports, celebrities, politic, race…pretty much a little of everything.   Frank is a great example of how you just need to do the work that makes YOU laugh and to throw caution to the wind.  One of my favorite interviews with one of my favorite comic artists!  Check him out right here!     And, we pretty much got the Superbowl right! Go us!

Tall Tale Features is dead. Long Live Tall Tale Radio

by Tom Racine on January 24, 2012 at 12:53 pm

The Grand Experiment that was Tall Tale Features officially comes to a close here in 2012.  Mike Witmer, he of the brilliant Pinkerton comic, had a wonderful vision of a comics collective made up of truly talented individuals who were all doing great work. If you follow comics online, you know the names and probably read their comics.  Brian Anderson, Lucas Turnbloom, David Reddick, Norm Feuti, Jonathan Lemon, Brock Heasley, Irma Eriksson, Barb Jacobs, Chip Skelton, Scott Metzger. There’s a whole lotta talent in there, folks.

There’s no scandalous reason that TTF is toddling off into the sunset other than the one that plagues so many valiant ideas and splendid plans…time.  Or, more specifically, the lack thereof.  All those artists listed above are amazing and supportive, but the bottom line was simply that there was no time to really devote to maintaining the community properly. Many attempts were made at blogging, posting, forums, etc…but each of them is deeply immersed in their own site, or for most of them, sites. Anyone who has even thought about taking a shot at creating their own comic strip, comic book, or graphic novel knows that it’s a full time job.  Usually on top of a day job, family, illustration jobs, freelance gigs, and side projects.

I have been lucky enough to hitch my wagon to those stars, and without exaggeration, each of them has been inspirational to me, supportive of the show, and honestly, good friends. I’m in contact with all them in one way or another most every day.  Irma has become such a close friend and webmistress to my web efforts, and the site you see before you is a small part of the 325 things she does for my artistic and personal life.  Lucas and I have lunch quite often and talk shop and our kids, Jonathan Lemon contributes brilliant comedy to my podcasts and is good friend I simply don’t see enough, Brock and I get into great discussions on twitter and email about every subject under the sun, Chip and I have political discussions that I wish actual politicians would emulate…Mike, Barb, Scott, Norm, and David are all artistic inspirations and wonderful people who I converse with all the time.  I wish I had half the artistic skill they all possess in their pinky toes.

In short, there would be no Tall Tale Radio without Mike Witmer’s vision and the support of all those amazing artists. They’re all doing quite well on their own, and it’s so exciting to watch them grow and stretch themselves.  I look forward to getting free copies of all their works as they explode on the scene!

So, Tall Tale Features is dead. Long live Tall Tale Radio.  I have had the opportunity to grow as a podcaster, interviewer and voice artist over these past several years, all because of this show. I have some great plans on the horizon for the show, hopefully some bigger news, and as always, the honor to talk to such great artists, musicians, filmmakers, and people from all walks of life. All of my TTF Brethren will surely continue to appear on the show, and all have carte blanche when it comes to that. I can’t thank them enough for their support and friendship, and know that both will continue for a long, long time.

Onward! And stay tuned!

Site Relocation = Temporarily missing podcasts

by Irma - TTR WebGoddess on January 20, 2012 at 4:36 am

This weekend we are relocating the site to this address (talltaleradio.com). While we do this, the podcast files may not be accessible here yet. If you want to browse the podcast files, just head on over to the old site (www.talltalefeatures.com), where you can still find everything as normal. Please excuse any issues you encounter here at talltalradio.com as it’s still in the works! THANKS!

NYCC Here I Come!

Well, ladies and gentlemen, thanks in a HUGE part to you, I’m off to the New York Comic Con again this year. It is an honor and privilege to have such amazing listeners. Sales of my “BookSmarts” book were better than I thought, so thank you for that. And several folks just donated from the bottom of their hearts, which is doubly amazing in this economy. I thank you all.

So, what does this all mean for you, you comics-hungry motley crew, you? Well, I fly out Wednesday, and starting Thursday some time will begin posting pictures and blog posts about New York. For me, the Con starts in earnest on Friday, where I’ll be running around the joint getting interviews, taking pictures, and, internet access permitting, maybe even doing some Ustreaming! (Last year, there was no internet in the Javitz Center, but ya never know.) I’ll be spending a lot of time with my friends over at the Webcomics Alliance, and the ever-lovely and talented “Imy” creator Irma Eriksson (who has Volume 2 of her great comic now available here), and Marc LaPierre, artist extraordinaire (hey! that rhymes!) currently of the “SuperFogeys” will be hanging out and hopefully running my camera for a time! I’m not sure when I’ll be posting video interviews…I suspect that will have to wait until my return. (My laptop can’t handle the HD stress!)

But I will be posting blogs, hopefully some audio, and pictures galore! I’m sure I’ll be tweeting like a madman, to be sure to follow me there… @talltaleradio.I’ll be doing a lot of tweeting, and probably asking some questions and interacting with a lot of people, so join in the fun!

Keep in mind that there are still some cool packages available to purchase, and I have about 20 copies of “BookSmarts” left, so click here and get yourself what is destined to be a very, very tiny part of cartoon history!
