In this widely-acclaimed series of almost 7 hours of training on 37 videos, delve into the fundamentals of Lightroom and beyond.  Laura guides you through how to manage, enhance and share your images in Lightroom 3 in a way that beginners can easily understand and immediately put to use, and with enough depth that intermediate users can also benefit greatly. From her years of teaching experience and moderating Adobe’s Community Help system, she anticipates where students get stuck, and with a clear and concise presentation style, guides you through the complexities with ease.

Getting Started: Understand how Lightroom 3 works with a catalog and nondestructive editing, where to put your images and how to organize them, how to move your catalog and images, how to ensure that everything gets backed up, how to set preferences and catalog settings.

Library: Learn how to get around in the Library module, manage screen space, set view options, import images, manage your files and folders, resolve problems that occur, rate, flag and keyword your images, add metadata, find images, create collections and smart collections. Learn how to use Publish Services to share your images on Facebook, Flickr and other services, and how to create jpeg and other copies of your images to share via Export.

Develop: after an overview of the Develop process, learn how to read the histogram, and then to use the crop, spot removal, and red eye tools. Learn the basics panel, how to adjust individual tones with the tone curve, individual colors with HSL, black and white conversions and split toning, adding grain and vignettes, lens corrections, sharpening and noise reduction. Learn how to take advantage of virtual copies and presets, and how to use history and snapshots. Make local changes with the adjustment brush and graduated filter. Work on multiple images with sync and auto sync. Learn different ways to view your image before and after your work.  New bonus: Integrating Photoshop into your Lightroom workflow.

37 high resolution (800 x 600 pixels or higher) MP4 movies (playable with Quick Time, iTunes and other media players; Quick Time Mac and PC installation programs included).  iPad compatible!

Includes guidance for beginners on which videos are most important to watch first.

Most common questions:

Is this series applicable to the Lightroom 4 Beta as well?  Yes –

It is not certain what will make it from the Lightroom 4 Beta into the official release. However, based on the beta, almost all of what I cover in the DVD is applicable to Lightroom 4  is comprised of necessary Lightroom skills, regardless of what version you end up using. There are additional new features in Lightroom 4, but very few changes to Lightroom 3′s ways of doing things. The only exception so far is the different set of tone controls in the Basics panel. I have already posted a video on my blog that explains this new Lightroom 4 Beta way to approaching the Basics tone controls.

Is this series applicable to Lightroom 2 as well? Yes — while the series was recorded using Lightroom 3, for the most part Lightroom 3 adds additional features, but otherwise looks and acts the same as Lightroom 2. The Import dialog does have a different layout — but the same basic functionality, so even the Import video is worth watching.

What people are saying about this product:

“A wonderful tool!  Laura Shoe is a master at explaining and clarifying the mysteries of Lightroom 3.  Her method is elegantly simplistic and even a guy who is one-swing-out-of-a-tree, such as I, can comprehend the topic. This is individualized instruction at its best. One of the benefits of this video series is the user has the ability to go back as often as needed, to truly understand the topic.  In short, you are going to hear a pro, who happens to be a superb teacher, explain the steps that will make your experience with Lightroom positive, rewarding and enjoyable.  This video series is a 10+++++++++++++++++++  Raleigh H.

“This is the best investment that I have made for learning Lightroom. I have bought books and watched other tutorials. This is by far the best way that I have found for learning Lightroom. Laura’s videos are clear and detailed, and very organized. She does an excellent job showing you how to use lightroom efficiently and correctly. She shows you where people make mistakes and how to avoid those mistakes. This DVD will save you hours of frustration, because Lightroom is not as intuitive as it seems to be. I have used Lightroom for many years, and this DVD taught me many things that I did not know about the program, or that I didn’t understand correctly, or things that I had simply forgotten. I give this DVD my very highest recommendation. I wish I had purchased it sooner.Don B.

“I bought your Lightroom 3 DVD and can tell you that the series was perfect for me.  I was able to do some basic things on my own before, but with your videos I learned so much about importing files, adding metadata, moving files around – along with all the other good stuff in the Develop module, especially.  I feel like your DVD took me to an entirely different level, feeling more confident about using the software.  My photos have improved thanks to your guidance with post-processing.Linda P.

“I recently purchased your Lightroom DVD and I just wanted to email you to say thank you.Your videos are clear, easy to understand and cover so much. I have bought books on Lightroom and watched other videos before, but NOTHING comes even close to what you have done here. If you ever put out any other courses, in photography or photoshop or anything you have a customer!” Aurit K.

This is by far the best tutorial/ instruction book/ guide/ seminar/ workshop / DVD that I’ve ever invested in!  Laura has a way of teaching that is pleasant and conversational and the visuals take you right along with her on a journey through Adobe Lightroom 3. It’s informational as well as entertaining.  She teaches in a way that allows me to absorb the information. I get it audibly and visually. Since it’s a DVD, I can just back it up and go over it again. I go back to it as a reference if I forget a step or want to go deeper into an area of Lightroom… I bought a popular instruction book on Lightroom 3 written by a well-known instructor and, although the book is very good, it’s just not the most effective way for me to learn. For a visual learner, Laura’s DVD is the way to go.”  Mark S.

“Just a quick note to say that, due to your Lightroom Fundamentals video, I managed  to miss almost the entire last, beautiful summer weekend sitting at my computer. The course is terrific… just what I needed. Everything explained fully and logically. Wish I’d never wasted my money on two confusing and  inadequate books.” Liz S.

“I can’t recommend this training enough!!! This training was the RIGHT way to learn — teaching concept, theory and really understanding what Lightroom is doing. I have read several LR books, taken other online training, used it for years and I STILL learned a ton from the DVD. I get so tired of other competitive training that teaches “buttonology” and menu memorizing which is not the right way to truly understand a product. From the first lessons, it is obvious that Laura is a professional instructor (which is rare in this type of technical training). The training is clear and well organized with just enough detail. I found myself taking notes and replaying lessons on issues that I was having trouble understanding. A very good investment!”  Jim L.

“Just wanted to let you know that I downloaded the lessons, and they are so great. I’ve gotten sooo much out of them already. And I still have more to watch. And what I love is that I learned more than just Lightroom skills. I had no idea I was supposed to be taking pictures on the brighter side (without over-exposing). It makes so much sense, I just never knew.  So thank you- really. You have done a great job.Liz H.

“My only criticism of Lightroom is that because on first use it appears so simple, it is easy to miss all the amazing features and tools that are contained therein.  For this reason alone, I really would recommend Laura’s videos/DVD as the fastest shortcut to a thorough understanding of Lightroom.  Her command of the software is only equalled by her calm and clear communication skills; she is indeed an excellent teacher.   John H.

“ I just finished watching the entire series of videos. Excellent job. You were very clear, concise, methodical, and went at a slow enough pace so I could understand the concepts. I wish I had this video when I first got Lightroom — this was so much more understandable than [a popular book that I purchased] or any tutorial that I tried out on the web!  Luci V.

“I am a NAPP member(Kelby Training), and have watched many of their videos, and purchased a couple different books from them on Lightroom. While I’ve found them OK, it never really hit home for me. After following Laura Shoe’s blog for a while, I figured I’d give her DVD a shot, and it really clicked with me: very clear instructions, to-the-point explanations of details without making it even more confusing, and a logical episode structure that builds up slowly and easily.  I highly recommend this DVD, especially if you are a visual learner, and don’t particularly enjoy sifitng through hundreds of pages of an instructional book. Murat A.

“There are piles of ‘how to’ books, manuals and DVDs in my home on the topics of photo editing and handling for several software applications and programs as well as the plug-ins.  The most utilized by me is your DVD on Lightroom.  Simple precise information is shared in a step by step manner in a way that is easy to follow even for an old dog like me.  It teaches the program in a common sense way.  I think it is done better than any other learning source that I have access to.  Well done and thank you!  Your teaching skills shine through.  Many others have good information but few ever learn how to teach it and make it fun to boot. Ray C.

“I’ve watched the first 8 videos so far, and am very impressed. The advantage of the DVD is that I can pause you (sorry) and take time out to try things out in Lightroom. I didn’t have to worry about holding the class up… Your DVD’s are well presented and very clear. Things that didn’t quite gel before are doing so now. The best Lightroom resource I have found so far. Eat your heart out Scott Kelby! John B.

I’m finally loving Lightroom after many tries.  Coming from Photoshop as far back as version 3.0, Lightroom never felt right to me, until now.  And I’m only on the 4th video [of 37]!   The tutorials are perfect.  Nicely paced, easy to follow and in depth.  A  pleasure to listen and watch.  An outstanding value.” Adhemar D.

“Laura Shoe’s ‘Lightroom 3 Fundamentals: Workshop on DVD’ provides the best available learning opportunities for both new and more experienced Lightroom users. The 37 segments each focus on a particular part of the Lightroom program, going into much greater detail than found in any of the books that allegedly cover the program.  As an experienced user, I learned how to more effectively work within the program, as well as discovering functions never disclosed in books or in one-day classes conducted by a nationally known training company.  Buy the DVD. It is a bargain for the price.”  G. Brown

“Kia ora (Hello) from New Zealand,  I purchased your Lightroom DVD recently. I have worked through all the modules from start to end. First I want to say congratulations on an excellent learning resource. I was rather overwhelmed by the file management side of LR3, but now am in awe of its power. I am in love with keywords!!   I have reworked some images that were done on PS Elements and the difference in quality is significant.  Thanks again Laura!”  Phil R.

“I have been a LR user since LR-1 first came out. I have books on each version and was hesitant about purchasing another book or instructional video. I have been having problems with image management and figured I would give this one a try. The first series of videos were aimed right at me and my organizational problems that I was experiencing with my present file system and where my images were physically located. This information paved the way I would finally set up my file heirachy and image management structure. I learned new tips and editing skills from every video that I watched. Well worth the time and money I spent. Wish it was around when LR-1 came out.“   Eddie D.

“Having reviewed several of the Lightroom 3 tutorials DVD’s I have found this to be the best, clear & explained well.  I would recommend this DVD to anyone wishing to learn LR3,& starting on my second trip through this the DVD I find tips I missed the first time around. You can’t go wrong in learning the in & outs of LR3.”  Robert G.

“I was thrilled to get the notice that your DVD was ready. It seemed like I had been waiting for months. I purchased it immediately and within minutes, I was viewing the lessons. So well done. An invaluable tool. Thanks so much!” L.M.

After 30 years of teaching at the college level, I can confidently recommend Laura’s teaching style in her Lightroom training DVD. Her presentations are clearly explained, and they are well paced, which makes it easy to follow her actions within any of her Lightroom videos. She is a natural teacher. As well, the information and hints contained in her videos will allow one to proceed immediately to their own images and make necessary adjustments.” Clint B., Ph.D.

Laura, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for putting out the Lightroom Workshop on DVD.  I am only half through it and have learned so much.  Your DVD is very easy to understand and worth every penny I spent on it!!”  Bernell L.

“This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, i.e simple and easy-to-follow training videos with hands on examples. So far I have watched 12 out 37 videos,  and I have already completed setting up my Lightoom 3 preferences, backups, organizing pictures within Lightroom, keywords, and metadata.  I can’t wait to complete all  37 videos.  I converted videos files to iphone/ipad/apple TV format and watch them whenever & whereever I can.  Overall, I highly recommend this DVD to anyone and everyone who wants to learn and master Lightroom at their own pace.  Special THANK YOU to Laura for making this DVD.  She made learning so easy and simple…  This DVD is worth every single penny. ”  G. P.

“I just completed ‘Lightroom Fundamentals’.  It is the best of the three DVDs I have on Lightroom.  Thanks so much.”  E.R.

This tutorial was just what I needed. It is better than being at a live presentation. You can stop and start at will, go back and view a part again. Also, you can have your Lightroom running while you watch and jump back and forth to put what you have seen into practice. The price is most reasonable. I recommend it to anyone with Lightroom. It enables you to get the most out of a wonderful organizing and editing program.”  Rick C.

I have been using Laura Shoe’s training videos for about three weeks and I find them very helpful indeed- almost essential. Lightroom 3 is loaded with features that are either hard to use or hard to discover, and these videos provide an excellent guide to a terrific but rather complex application. I have the lessons installed on my iPad and whenever I have a few minutes to spare, I’ll watch one or even a part of one. I think this DVD is an exceptionally helpful learning aid.”  Ted van G.

“The download is working great!  The instruction is superb!  It’s almost as good as being in your class. The ability to re-play is exactly what I need to understand many of the Lightroom processes. It is also a great review for areas in LR that I do not use on a frequent basis.”  Carlton M.

“I really enjoy these videos, and also must say I’m much more of a believer in Lightroom since it’s been somewhat ‘unleashed’ for me now.  Overall, given the content and usefulness of these videos (35?+), it’s an outstanding value for the price and would definitely recommend them.”  W.B.

“I didn’t know what to expect when I purchased Laura Shoe’s set of DVD’s on how to Lightroom, but I can say I was pleasantly surprised to find them so helpful. She breaks each topic down into a separate session so that it’s easy to learn one concept, try it out in Lightroom, and then move onto the next. She explains everything very clearly and demonstrates the concepts logically and in an easy to understand way. It’s also easy to go back and review a DVD if needed.   As a result of watching these DVD’s I have improved my Lightroom workflow, learned how to make my photos better, and feel very confident making changes. I couldn’t be more delighted! I’m planning to watch the DVD’s again to pick up things that I missed the first time around – they are so packed with content I’m sure this will be a benefit.”  L.P.

” The videos explain each step of using Lightroom in a very easy-to-understand way. I find it expecially helpful to have the video on half the screen and then Lightroom on the other half of the screen and follow along with the video. These 37 lessons are well worth the price and will make your investment in the Lightroom program really pay off. There are so many subtleties of Lightroom that I really would have never figured out on my own. I am very happy that I bought this set of instructional videos.”  Martin S.

“I just want to say thank you for the fine teaching tools and great presentation style that I’ve found in your LR3 product.  You’ve made my LR3 very useful to me now and I’ve gone off to purchase [an external hard drive]  so that I can properly transfer / move my images using your techniques.  So glad to have the benefit of your tutelage.” Jacques A.

“I recently bought your Lightroom video series and love it!  I am relatively new to digital and find your videos very easy to understand.”  Lisa B.

“Hi Laura, I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful teacher you are!  I bought your dvd and it has just saved my life!  I’m not a techie and the clear, concise explanations together with a reasonable pace makes me feel I will be able to eventually summit the mountain of information at some point soon.  Thank you!!” Martha G.

“Hi Laura, I’ve just spent the most informative week working through your fantastic Fundamentals and Beyond DVD. I only wish l had been able to acquire it years ago – it would have solved a huge number of problems I’ve been having with Lightroom in the past, especially the filing of images. Thanks to you, I am now looking forward to using Lightroom with far more confidence in the future. Cheers from Down Under!” Albert S.

“Laura, I am really getting so much from your Fundamentals DVD. You have explained the intricacies of Lightroom in such a clear and concise manner. One of my New Year’s goals is to get my mind around Lightroom. You have me well on my way!” Nancy O.

Definitely, Monica! I understand your frustration — there are many things about Lightroom that are not intuitive or obvious to beginners, and things can get frustrating and out of hand quickly. I believe you will find that my DVD/download is well worth the investment, and that once you get past the learning curve, you will really like the program and enjoy using it to manage and enhance your photos. You can pause or stop the videos at any point to practice, and you can watch them multiple times. I have hundreds of satisfied customers — above are testimonials from some.

    Best,
    Laura
