In 2001 the artist David Buckland launched Cape Farewell to instigate a cultural response to climate change. An ambitious programme of activity brings together leading artists, writers, scientists and educators, stimulating interconnected activities designed to inspire artists and engage audiences with the social and environmental challenges of climate change.
Over 110 outstanding English and international artists have joined Cape Farewell's art and science expeditions over the past 11 years, and produced work that is informed by boundary-pushing scientific enquiry and speaks directly or indirectly of the urgent issues of climate change. Current projects include Shortcourse/UK, the recently returned Scottish Islands Expedition, and High Arctic, showing at the National Maritime Museum.
