The Cultural Resources Council of Syracuse and Onondaga County works to enhance the arts and cultural environment of the region through support and service to our individual artist, grass root arts & cultural groups and our established cultural institutions.

Our mission is to provide services to individuals, organizations and the general public that ensure the vitality and diversity of culture in Central New York. Toward this end, the Cultural Resources Council shall provide leadership through:

Advocacy
Collaborative ventures
Communication
Development and distribution of grants
Education and training
Management of cultural resources
Presentation of cultural forms otherwise unavailable
Research, referral and consultation
Technical assistance

Our goal is to enhance in the general public a greater appreciation for the arts and cultural vibrancy of the region.

Stephen Butler – Executive Director

Stephen Butler is a native of Onondaga County. He received his BA in Theatre from Oswego State University and relocated to New York City. During his years in NYC Stephen worked as the Director of Membership/Programs for the Alliance of Resident Theaters/New York, the Alliance of New York State Arts Councils and at several producing organizations including Manhattan Theatre Club, the Hudson Guild Theater, and Creative Alternatives of New York, a drama-therapy organization serving the greater metropolitan region. He was also an AEA stage manager. Stephen is a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship recipient in Strategic Planning. He returned to Syracuse and obtained a Masters of Arts in Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. Before coming to CRC he was the Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Onondaga County. He currently resides in Eastwood.

Jon Wilson – Administration Manager

Jon Wilson comes to the CRC after spending eleven and a half years as artistic director of Appleseed Productions, where he was responsible for both the artistic and business sides of the company’s day-to-day operations. He worked peripherally with the CRC during that time, serving as an adjudicator for the Michael Harms Theater Festival, and wrote grants for the CRC’s Community Arts Grants Program and other grants awarded to Appleseed. Jon received his BA in Theatre from Binghamton University and his MA in Youth & Family from Luther Seminary. Before coming to Syracuse, he worked in New York City for both Playwrights Horizons and Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, and performed with Soho Rep and several other companies along Theatre Row. As a director, designer, instructor, and performer in Syracuse, Jon has worked with just about every CNY theater company and various schools, and has received SALT, SALTY, and TANYS awards for that work.
