Will Marc Tyler ever learn?
Last week’s one-game suspension o f USC tailback Marc Tyler came as no surprise to the SC faithful that have been keeping a close eye on the star athelete. Tyler, a fifth-year Senior, has run into other problems in the past and it seems that the most recent incident was the tip of the iceberg for Coach Kiffin. AD Pat Haden was interviewed by a nationally syndicated morning radio show where he said Tyler was closing to being kicked off the team. Not exactly a smart move for Tyler to go and brag on camera about being paid for playing football at SC. Let alone on TMZ! Will Marc Tyler ever realize that he is no longer 18 years of age but rather a grown man at the age of 22 (soon to be 23 in September). Tyler needs to step it up and demonstrate that he wants to be part of the USC tradition of great tailbacks. Tyler was the leading rusher for the Trojans last season and is expected to carry the bulk of carries this year along with Dillon Baxter and Curtis McNeal.

Combine/Draft Tidbits; USC Alum Matt Cassel to be KC Chiefs Starter
So, a couple notes during this slow news period of the year for USC football:
- Clay Matthews stock has significantly risen thanks to the combine, where he posted great numbers, placing in the top five of most workouts, especially in speed/agility drills. Some analysts now have him going above Brian Cushing in the draft.
- Meanwhile, Rey Maualuga’s stock has dropped due to a hamstring injury suffered at the beginning of the combine. He must perform well during pro day or he may drop even lower in the first round. However, he will stay in the first round no matter what. It would be a complete shock to see Rey go in the second round.
- Placekicker David Buehler rocked the Bench press portion of the combine (25 reps), out lifting most of the offensive linemen at the workout. Not very pertinent, but a fun fact.
- Lastly, USC Alum Matt Cassel is primed to be the starter at Kansas City now that he has been traded from the Patriots. Along with Carson Palmer, and perhaps Mark Sanchez and Matt Leinart, could be one of anywhere from 2-4 NFL starters hailing from SoCal.
- Analysts expect the Patriots to fill the USC gap left by Cassel with a linebacker. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper have wavered between who they think the Pats will get (Cushing or Matthews), but both of them have New England taking a USC LB. Of course, the Patriots have never drafted as predicted, so we will see.
Out of Left Field, Te’o Commits to ND
Supposedly, as I mentioned in my last post, very reliable sources had him committing to USC after a competition between the Trojans and UCLA. Now, he’s in South Bend. Go figure.
