Benz Road - by Reginald Wright

Military Madness

We have hardly had time to breathe unloading containers and what should arrive in it's own metal box? An ex 'Chinese Peoples Liberation Army' motorcycle.
We didn't order it but we suspect who did! The same person whom owns this whole personal museum/garage... he loves to surprise us!

So, we open the box and muse at the agricultural military machine of the past.
This engine was developed by BMW (and Zundapp?) in the thirties.

The side-valve arrangement looks kind of cool and lo and behold it runs quietly and smoothly.

These motorcycles were primarily made to have a sidecar fitted and this is clear by the 'ball-joints' built into the right hand side of the frame.
There are variations in configuration: Hi-Lo range/ Reverse gear/ power-take-off for driving the side-car wheel and braking the side-car wheel.

With movement in the front forks that looks dangerous, I would not ride it and maybe we will just fix it for the fun of experiencing 1930/40's motorcycling...spacer

Stay tuned for that report!

70s Classics

March 22nd 2011 04:26
After a long break we have finally opened the last of the containers.

This was a revelation. We had no idea there would be the Japanese classics we found there amongst the benz pre and post war equipment.

Some German 70s 'Puch' and a mostly complete 'Munch' but the most unexpected was the 1972 CB750 Honda. Painted black and looking quite smart after a wash it is missing exhaust pipes and a seat but otherwise complete.

We will posta picture of this and some more of the other finds soon!

Stay Tuned! spacer

WW2 BMW rebuild

July 8th 2010 01:49
A shipping container, we had had a cursory glance at before containing some of the most interesting bits and pieces. Anything from ww2 BMW outfit (sidecar configured motorcycle) to some tank tracks, aircraft engines etc.
With great care, as I had hurt myself before trying to get through interesting heavy objects in my haste and excitement. With the use of a very good wheeled hydraulic lift, we moved some diesel engines aside to lift, with great care, this old BMW.
Still attached to this motorcycle was the skeleton/frame of the sidecar with a drive shaft from the motorcycle to the sidecar wheel for drive

What a find...!

May 13th 2010 06:05
After a long break from the meanderings through my good friends private collection, I located a secure box (about the size of four big personal travel chests) from one of the earliest shipments he had received.

This box had not been opened since it arrived, as it still had a customs check seal and sign-off tag from 1962

Watch your step!

Your text goes hereGreetings,
Having a fall at my friends private museum was a very painful and non-productive period of my life, however....

Classic Mercedes 600 Pedigree

Mercedes Benz have an enviable history. No matter who the manufactuer may be, you can be sure they have looked at their contemporaries and most closely at those such as Mercedes.

Why, with no less than the distinction of (arguably) being the 'Inventors' of the Motor Vehicle

WW2 Benz?

Almost identical but not actual
We wandered through his multi level carpark taking the odd non-Benz car from its stands giving it a quick service, plus spray grease in and on door hinges etc. An hour or two on the private roadway to get a little heat in things then puting it away for another indeterminate period.
In our roaming we decided to go through the unrestored and non-running lot and came upon some treasures he had forgotten he had!
First up a German ww2 troop carrier (half-Track) which is fitted with a petrol engine! In the medium light it looked like a Benz or Maybach built engine (not that I am that familiar with the prewar stuff

Mercedes et al Menagerie!

June 3rd 2008 09:17
As has been described previously, the search within my good friends multi level 'climate controlled' personal museum is a search with no end.
As I have encouraged him, to let me help him, ensure that most if not all of these Gems should have their turn in the sun, checked, serviced, put aside for parts arrival if required, we unearth some which he had forgotten about!
None of his cars carry batteries, there is a rack of batteries on each level which are kept on a trickle charge with modern diagnostics to ensure the batteries are maintained in top order

Maybach Majestic Madame

May 14th 2008 14:23
Why would my good friend expect me to choose his Maybach and just hope that I have made a choice he may have made!
Ok, the only thing he left me with was that he wanted the long wheelbase, oh, thanks...
Well, there are thousands of variations and I simply kept it simple and (to me) tasteful
