happy saturday, a-holes! i aint got much going on except enjoying a few beers before i start my medical treatment tomorrow which of course puts on the wagon for 10 days. who knows? maybe ill go longer, i could stand to lose a few pounds. also, me and the wife are supposed to quit smoking on the 14th. she smokes much less than yours truly, but still we both need to stop.

teenage fanclub: the black sessions

top of the evening! hope everyone had just the most loveliest of weeks. shit, i know i did! or maybe not really, or it was fine, or just there. i havent decided. i did learn today that i have a sinus infection and a deviated septum. yay for genetics! dont think i have brought this up, but i have not been able to hear for the past month. well, i can hear, but its very muffled. so, being the proactive person i am, i went out and spent about 30 bucks on shit that would, if worked as advertised, unclog my ears. well, as it turns out after visiting the ent, ear, nose and throat, doc today, my ears are not clogged at all. in fact they are all clear. its the sinus infection that is causing them to be the way they are. son of a bitch! i have wasted money on a lot of stupid shit in my day, but i hate that i actually was trying to waste my money on something good and it was all for nothing. now, i have to take steroids, some nasal spray and antibiotics for ten days. no drinking for me. again, son of a bitch! oh, and the kicker of all this is that its these damn cats thats inflicting most of this. the cats that i cant stand to begin with. i know ya’ll dont care about my ailments but figured i would throw it out there for my own therapeutic reasons.

anyway, like the headline says this here is teenage fanclub’s black session which was recorded in paris on 11.16.93.

let me ask you a question. do you like the rock and the roll? im assuming you do cause your visiting this joint, but really do you love it? i do! otherwise i wouldnt be going on 7 years of running this place. with the interrogation out of the way, i gotta rock n’ roll record for ya that wont disappoint, at all. in fact, this record has been buzzin in my ears for the past week or so, and continue to be impressed with each listen. the record that i speak of is wess floyd’s foxhole confessions.

cmj sampler 2003

firstly, i was really surprised to see that cmj was still around, but it doesnt appear they actually are in the magazine business – the old business model. i subscribed for years from maybe like 93ish to maybe 2000? anyway, happy to see they’re still around even though they’ve been really out of my brain since the end of my subscription. i knew they still did the cmj conference thing, but thought that may be in name only. either way.. its interesting to see who they, or the labels in this case capitol was pushing back in 03. most surprising name on here is of course, verbena – mr a.a. bondy’s first band. i, of course, know they made the jump after what i consider to be one of the best debuts ever, souls for sale, which was released on merge in 1997. anyone ever hear of marjorie fair? yeah, me neither.

what im listening to right now: water liars’ phantom limb

i believe i had heard of the band phantom limb from a year or two back, but dont believe i had the pleasure of listening to em. well, know phantom limb is water liars and the name of their upcoming record is entitled phantom limb. hows that for confusing? either way i am actually on my third listen of said record which comes out 2.28 on misra records.

new multitudes “old la”

been waiting for this one for a while now, but tis finally in my grimy lil mitts. although, i havent listened to it yet. this, being the new record of unreleased woody guthrie lyrics put to tape by 3 dudes who i love, and one i used to really like. those men have made up new multitudes and are will johnson of centro-matic, anders parker of varnaline, jay farrar of son volt/uncle tupelo and jim james (yim yames) of my morning jacket. the record is due out on 2.28 on rounder records and they are doing some touring. check their facebook page for the dates they got lined up. you can pre-oder it via amazon , fyi.

as y’all know i am a huge, huge, huge whitley fan, and i want this to get made or at least distributed. they have a hefty goal, but dammit if the internets cant do it, no one can. chris’ music meant a lot to me, and it really pains me to see some of these clips, but still i/we need to see it.

top of the day! that flyer is not this show, but from the time period. dont have much time as i actually have “work” to do, but i had a request for this superchunk show which took place on 2.11.92 at the whisky a go go. this performance was actually them opening up for hole. that would have been an interesting crowd. buy superchunk stuff via merge.
