This blog describes how to use Gaelyk version 0.5.6 in IntelliJ on a Mac OS X environment.

We are going to use the Gaelyk template project and show how to customize IntelliJ in order to deploy the application both locally and on the Cloud.

My environment is composed of the following software:

• Mac OS X 10.6.4
• JDK 1.6.0_22
• IntelliJ IDEA 9.0.3
• Groovy 1.7.5 (bundled with Gaelyk 0.5.6)
• Gaelyk template project 0.5.6 (download)
• Google App Engine SDK for Java 1.3.8 (download)

In order to be able to deploy an application on Google App Engine (GAE) , you have first to create an account.

I am using IntelliJ IDEA on Mac OS X with a french keyboard.

When I tried to use the pipe character through the keyboard sequence Alt-Shift-L, I’ve got a popup window:

The reason is that the current keyboard mapping has linked the keyboard sequence to a feature (Tools > Context > Load).

We need to remove this mapping from the keyboard map. But, the keyboard mappings provided with IntelliJ cannot be modified.

The solution consists in using our own keyboard’s mapping by using the following steps:

• From IntelliJ, click on “File > Settings”
• Select “IDE Settings > Keymap”
• From your current Keymap (eg: “Mac OS X”) click More >

Due to some project constraints, I have to use Eclipse Europa (version 3.3) instead of Eclipse Ganymede (version 3.4). As GlassFish was required, I have tried to install the appropriate plugin in order to define my server. By default, the GlassFish’s server is not defined on Eclipse. Eclipse allows you to download  “Additional Server Adapters” such as GlassFish:

L’application Yaps Pet Store (ou Yaps pour faire court) est une application fictive développée par Antonio Goncalves dans le cadre de son livre sur JEE5 (également décrit ici).

Dans ce livre, l’application Yaps est développée étape par étape pour illustrer les nombreux concepts entourant JEE5. Pour rester le plus neutre possible, l’auteur a pris le parti d’utiliser Ant pour construire et déployer l’application.

Pour ma part, j’ai entrepris de porter l’application Yaps sous NetBeans 6.5.
