Rumor: Is Google Launching GDrive Cloud Storage This Year?

Rumor alert: The Wall Street Journal is hinting that Google is finally, really and completely getting ready to launch a so-called GDrive — a cloud storage offering that would take on Dropbox and Box directly.

Nivio Raises $21 Million in ‘Magic’ Cloud Desktop Funding

Desktop-as-a-service provider Nivio (the company spells its name with a lower-case “n,” for the record) has announced the close of a $21 million round of funding that will support the company’s stated mission “to bring the magic back to computing.”

The round of funding was led by India-based Videocon and Kansas City-based AEC Partners, and will go into expanding Nivio’s Palo Alto office while also enabling cloud platform rollout in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Oracle Buys Taleo, Counters SAP-SuccessFactors In the Cloud

spacer Oracle is buying Taleo Corp. for $1.9 billion, marching into the cloud-based talent market and countering SAP‘s recent buyout of SuccessFactors. In essence, Oracle and SAP are trading big punches in the cloud computing industry. Just last week, SAP predicted it would be a cloud services leader within three years. But Oracle’s buyouts of Taleo and RightNow (in 2011) suggest CEO Larry Ellison will stay on the offensive.
