bit of book-trivia:
In February of 1953, a young author began working on the manuscript for what would later become his first book. Finishing the manuscript in a matter of months, the author, an avid birdwatcher- happened to have a copy of this field-guide to Birds of the West Indies on his desk when publishers called asking for the name of the novel’s main character.
The author took the name of his main character from an american ornithologist and an expert in Caribbean birds, James Bond. The young author, Ian Fleming would later publish his manuscript as the spy thriller Casino Royale- the first of twelve novels & nine short stories that would define the spy genre and create one of the most iconic characters of the 20th century.
