Revered Parisian electronic duo AIR (Nicolas Godin and JB Dunckel) were asked
to compose an original score for the restored version of the classic 1902 silent
film Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip To The Moon) by Georges Melies.
This new artist album is the fully realized outcome of that collaboration.
Georges Melies is one of the central characters in Martin Scorsese's new
blockbuster hit `Hugo' and his life and work (including the iconic `A Trip To
The Moon') is attracting a whole new wave of interest as a result. AIR's musical
career is entering its 15th year, during which time they have sold over 1
million albums in the US, with many memorable highlights including a seminal
debut album Moon Safari, a film soundtrack for Sofia Coppola, a
sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl with full orchestra, multiple US tours
including appearances at Coachella, and specially commissioned music for
ballet, theatre and French lifestyle icon Cartier . Features vocals and lyrics by
Victoria Legrand of Beach House on "Seven Stars" and Au Revoir Simone on
"Who Am I Now?". Also Available as a Strictly Limited Edition CD+DVD
package, which will include the new album + a DVD of the newly restored,
colorized film featuring AIR's original score.
Critically acclaimed Denver-based foursome The Fray are back with their
third album, Scars & Stories. The album was recorded at the legendary
Blackbird Studios in Nashville.
The Fray was able to hone their sound with the help of producer Brendan
O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and Neil Young). On the new
recording, the band transforms their real life experiences into a
collection of songs that are reflective, but still maintain a pop sensibility.
The making of Scars and Stories fostered the most evolution the
band has ever experienced, both lyrically and musically. "On our first
record, we didn't quite trust ourselves yet," says lead-singer Isaac Slade.
"We loosened up on the second album, but there was still some element
of restraint. But on this one, we just stepped up to plate and swung as
hard as we could."
Scars & Stories leads with first single "Heartbeat," of which Slade notes,
"That song came out of a period of my life when I was trying hard to be
open to whatever came my way. I traveled through South Africa and
Rwanda with a buddy, and at first it was really hard to stay open in the
face of so much pain and heartache. But then I ended up meeting so
many cool and inspiring people, and all these ideas for lyrics and
melodies just started rushing in." The inspiration specifically came from
a chance meeting with an expatriate woman. Speaking of the miracle of
the capital city overcoming such remarkable odds, the two held hands
and Slade reveals "I felt so connected to her. I couldn t tell if it was her
pulse or mine."
Blues Funeral is the first Mark Lanegan Band album since
2004's Bubblegum.
It was recorded in Hollywood, California by Alain Johannes at his 11ad
studio. The music was played by Johannes and Jack Irons with
appearances from Greg Dulli, Josh Homme et al.
Mark Lanegan has sung with Screaming Trees, Queens Of the Stone
Age, The Twilight Singers, The Gutter Twins, Soulsavers and Isobel
Campbell.
Kisses On The Bottom is a collection of standards Paul grew up
listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney
compositions "My Valentine" and "Only Our Hearts." With the help of
Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and
her band--as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie
Wonder, McCartney's new album is a deeply personal journey through
classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first
heard his father perform on piano at home. The full track listing reveals
that Paul has been both reverent and adventurous in his song choices.
The shimmering sound of Tramp both defies and illuminates
the unsteadiness of a life in flux. During the 14 months of scattered
recording sessions, Sharon Van Etten was without a home - crashing
with friends and spreading out her possessions between various
locations. The only constant during this time was when Van Etten
returned to the garage studio of The National's Aaron Dessner. The
resulting album is an assured and strident one, and Tramp
showcases an artist in control of her powers, incorporating vivid
arrangements and instrumentation into the songwriting.
As made clear already by widely-spread preview track "Kill It In The
Morning" and first single "Sick," The Twilight Sad's third full-length,
No One Can Ever Know, marks a sonic shift for the band.
Freshly inspired by a listening diet of Cabaret Voltaire, Can, Liars,
Magazine, Autechre, and Public Image Limited, the band turn to a dark,
synth-heavy sound for No One Can Ever Know; the resulting LP
shares thematic and sonic space with the most innovative offerings
from Depeche Mode, The Cure, or even Nine Inch Nails.
The British folk group releases an album of live recorded covers of
Robert Wyatt and Antony & The Johnsons songs.
Van Halen's first original studio album with singer David Lee Roth since
the band's classic multi-platinum album 1984.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1974, Van Halen changed the rock and roll
landscape forever with the release of their self-titled, 1978 debut
album displaying unparalleled stage presence, revolutionary
musicianship, and extraordinary songwriting abilities. With more than
75 million albums sold worldwide, the band's record of achievement is
hard to top. Among a long list of awards, recognition and accolades,
Van Halen joins an elite short list of two time Diamond Award honorees
in the history of the music industry. Presented with two Diamond Award
RIAA Certified Status' for their albums Van Halen and
1984, the band has produced a repertoire of hits that remain
some of the strongest and most influential rock songs ever written that
fans will admire for decades to come.
