Tasty Tuesday Blog Party – Cheese Danish Anyone?

by Kim on March 2, 2009

If you are looking for a low-fat recipe…Stop now!

spacer

Do you enjoy a good cheese danish? Well, I know I do! If you like these, you are gonna love what we’re making on Tasty Tuesday this week!

Check out this great recipe from The Nester at Nesting Place!

Baptist Sugar Bread

  • 2 cans of crescent rolls
  • 2 (8 oz) packages of cream cheese
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla

spacer

Open the crescent rolls and flatten them out in a 9 X 13 baking pan. Press the seams together so it looks like one big piece of dough.

spacer

In one bowl, mix together the cream cheese, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and 1 egg yolk (you will need the egg white later).

spacer

Mix well.  A mixer would be better, but I used a spoon.

spacer

Then spread the cheese mixture evenly over the first layer of crescent rolls.

spacer

Add your second can of crescent rolls on top (with the seams squished together). Brush the top with the egg white and bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes.

This is what you end up with…

spacer

A flaky outside with a sweet, yummy cheese inside!

This Baptist Sweet Bread tastes like it was made by a pastry chef (you), and you can feed a ton of people with it!  What a great dish for company!  I couldn’t believe how easy and delicious it was the first time I had it!

Now you can have a cheese danish whenever you want.  Well, maybe you shouldn’t have this whenever…you know what I mean.  I did say it wasn’t a low calorie dish!

Enjoy, and thanks for joining us for Tasty Tuesday this week!

I don’t have a recipe for this time, but I’m going to link to a post of mine about how to soften brown sugar. I hope that’s okay. If not, I don’t mind if you delete my link. Welcome back! I missed your posts.

It’s amazing how many yummy foods you can make with crescent rolls and cream cheese as the base. I shared one on my blog that is great as a brunch casserole. I’ve made something similar to what you posted. I’m going to try your recipe next time.

You can use low fat cream cheese and it doesn’t change the consistency!

We were going to make this right now and started looking for our 13×9 pan. We couldn’t find one, and then remembered that we left it in Alaska because it was too expensive to ship! I’ll have to wait until after we make a Wal-Mart trip and can buy some pyrex dishes! And here I was all excited about a cream cheese dessert. spacer Maybe next Sunday afternoon! Or maybe I should go bother my neighbors for a pan…..
