Summer Lovin’: From Head to Toe: Summer Beauty Without Breaking the Bank

Hey everyone! I’m Katie, and I blog over at Ruffles & Truffles! I write about a little bit of everything: there’s a lot of everyday fashion, healthy recipes, and copious amounts of furbaby photos (I can’t get enough of our pup, Lucia). In my free time, I also enjoy a great happy hour cocktail, as well as bargain shopping. I hope you’ll join me in my adventures!

Right now we’re in the thick of summer. I don’t know about you, but when the heat and humidity start kicking into full gear, I have to adjust some of the beauty products stocked in my bathroom. Today, I wanted to share 10 different beauty products for your skin and hair that I swear by in the summer months (well, some of them year-round)! And…even better: none of them are going to break the bank to purchase!

Let’s start with hair products, shall we?

1 & 2: Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner ($7.99 each at Target): I recently was drawn to Organix products simply by their packaging. I’m a sucker for a nice looking bottle, and the turqoise and gold combo drew my eye.  However, the products themselves are awesome too! The scent is absolutely wonderful, the shampoo lathers beautifully, and my hair has been feeling extra shiny in weeks after I started using the set. Right now, Target offers the 19.5fl oz containers (double the regular size) for the same price as the regular ones…pick them up!

3: Big Sexy Hair Root Pump Plus mousse ($11.99 at Marshalls): I can honestly say that I can’t live without this mousse in the summer. It is a humidity resistant mousse, and it’s worth every penny. Unlike many mousse products you spray in your hand, with this product you lift your hair and spray directly into the root. It works wonders. 95% of the time, I’ve been able to find bottles at T.J. Maxx or Marshalls, so I suggest looking there first. However, if that doesn’t work, I’d still be willing to pay the full $17.99; the bottle is large and it lasts a long time!

4: John Frieda Collection Heat Defeat protective spray ($5.39 at Target): With summer comes a lot of heat…from the sun and from your styling tools. I make sure to spray the ends of my hair with Heat Defeat before using my hair dryer or other heat tools. Keep your eyes peeled on the weekly newspaper coupons: there is usually a $2 off coupon for any John Frieda product available about once a month so you can snag it for even cheaper!

5: TRESemme Tres Two hairspray, extra hold ($3 at Walmart): So, I use this hairspray year-round, but I swear by it. It has a super-fine mist, holds securely, and doesn’t make your hair crunchy at all (unless you use copious amounts, of course). All other hairsprays I’ve tried in this price range just don’t do it for me. I even carry a travel size in my handbag at all times…be prepared!

Your hair isn’t the only important part of your body to take care of in the summer…your skin does take up the largest amount of space on your body after all!

6. Suave Vitamin E body lotion (about $3 at Walmart): I have really soft skin (that sounds vain…but hear me out). I honestly give credit to my moisturizing process. I love this lotion: as soon as you step out of the shower and towel off, immediately apply a generous amount of this lotion. Assuming you take a hot shower, your skin is the most absorbent in the first few minutes afterward because your pores are still open. I love Suave lotions because they are creamy, the scents aren’t overwhelming, and the price is right. I usually find a coupon for buy one get one free in the newspaper: score!

7. Olay Complete moisturizer ($9 at Walmart): This is another product I use year-round. Oil of Olay’s moisturizer is light, creamy, and definitely not oily. They offer multiple options to cater to each skin type: I use combination/oily for my skin in the summer, and switch to sensitive skin in the winter.

8. Monistat Soothing Care chafing relief powder-gel ($8.50 at Target): I know, you’re already thinking - what the heck is this? This, my friends, is my foundation primer. I rub a pea sized amount on my face before applying my foundation. The ingredients are pretty much the exact same as Smashbox’s Photo Finish primer, which runs about $36 for a 1oz bottle. So, for under $10 you can grab a 1.5oz tube of this powder-gel. Yes, it will probably feel strange when you place it at the register, but you’ll get over it when you think about how you’re saving so much money.

9. Smashbox Anti-shine ($27 at Nordstrom): I realize this item has a slightly higher price tag than the others, but trust me, it’s worth it, and it lasts a long time. If you are like me, the summer = added oil on my skin…which means I get extremely shiny. It drives me nuts. However, after discovering Smashbox’s Anti-shine, my problems have been over. I simply apply a very small amount (about half the size of a pencil eraser) to the areas of my face prone to shine. Honestly, there is a distinct difference (to me) on the days when I use the Anti-shine and the days that I don’t. I love this product!

10. Chapstick Moisturizer ($1.50 at Walmart): Your lips are part of your skin as well, so you can’t neglect them! I know that many others swear by some of the higher end lip balms, but the original Chapstick Moisturizer is the way to go for me! I keep a few of these sticks in various places; one in my handbag, one in the bathroom, and one in the living room on our coffee table. Keep it simple, I say!

So, there you have it: my 10 best summer beauty buys: and all of them add up to less than $100! Here’s to looking gorgeous!

Do you have any summer beauty products that you can’t live without?
