Physical Therapy Update

I completed my second week of Physical Therapy.  Today Alison did Astym on my ITB… I heard rave reviews and at the same time, that it hurt like a beyotch.  Both are valid descriptions.

ASTYM treatment is a physical therapy treatment that regenerates healthy soft tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.), and eliminates or reduces unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions.

…and since scar tissue is the story of my life…well, I think this will be a lasting love affair.  I could already feel a difference when I got on the foam roller.  My ITB wasn’t screaming at me as I rolled over it.

The best part about this treatment is you continue doing what you are doing…get on the bike, swim, run, lift, etc.  You actually don’t want to lay around because then the body will regenerate the same way, but taking on your activities, your body learns to regrow healthy tissue as you utilize full range of motion, without the restriction of scar tissue and limited mobility.  (Or something like that…)

I’ll let you know how it goes…

WOD - 2.9.2012

The IM outdoor ride was canceled due to some snowy precipitation yesterday am…I had a doctor’s appointment in NJ, so I opted to sleep the extra half hour, then hit the road.  All is well.

THEN

Adam and I had brunch…

SWIMMING!

I never want to go swim after work.  I just don’t.  I’m tired, usually I’ve been up since around 5am and well I do not love to swim!  So instead I enlist cohorts…not even ppl on the IM Team, but friends who are willing to meet me at the pool.  I’m lucky that way…

spacer

What’s a bonus is that Justin swam in college and used to coach a bit, so instead of just plugging out my 1600 with bad form and inefficiency…he dissected my stroke and gave me some pointers and we practiced a few things…for over an hour.  It’s kind of hard to not laugh when you look down and there is a well built gay may facing up at you with a speedo on waving like a mad man…with swimmer goggles held together by a string… I heart my friends.

As such, you are now reading the blog of a bilateral breather!  Sweet baby Jesus miracles in February!

    WOD - 2.8.2012

    Ladies Night!

Wednesday is “Ladies’ Night” here in Brooklyn, but that doesn’t mean men aren’t invited. Everyone’s welcome to come down and test their luck with one of CrossFit‘s special “Girls.” The Girl workouts are benchmarks which we use to test our athletes and measure our results against other CrossFitters around the world.

Why girl names? Coach Glassman says, “Anything that leaves you flat on your back looking up at the sky asking ‘WTF happened to me?’ deserves a female name.” Adjust your expectations accordingly!

    “Diane”
    21, 15, 9 reps for time of:
    Deadlifts, 225lbs 115 - you know my body weight…bahahaha
    Handstand Push-ups - modified on a box

    spacer

I apparently should have taken a time penalty since I was not making full contact with the abmat on the modified hand stand push-ups.  Coach pointed it out on my last set, when I was done.  It’s confusing when your ponytail is touching shiz….

Some think life is not so much a place to seek personal happiness and fulfillment, Michele, but rather a place to learn lessons and pay dues.

And so it is for them.
