Wei Up Close: A Close Look at Peter T Hoang

He’s like the other kid your mom doesn’t want you to hang out with. Not because he doesn’t do his homework and often gets into fights at school. But because you’ll want to shop where he shops and therefore he is a bad influence. Sticking out like a good-looking sore thumb, Peter is no average fashion blogger. Tall, Vietnamese, outspoken and so delicious to your pupils that even all the girls are wishing for Christmas he changes teams.

Peter is the first guy in Vancouver, Canada, that I have ever seen carry a purse and still remain masculine – Alexander Wang and Balenciaga at that. He gives no apologies for his fashion forwardness in the city that is much too behind. On Peter’s popular fashion blog, www.thestarvingstylist.com, his followers appreciate his honest attitude and transparent personality, including times when he is sure and unsure of himself. Again, no apologies. As Peter puts it himself,  “I’m a guy with just another damn personal style diary, where tacky and self-absorbed pictures of me are posted as I parade around like an idiot in outfits a red-neck would just not understand”.

He starves, lives and breathes for fashion. Essentially Peter is entirely sucked into the world of conspicuous consumption. But we like him because he reminds us that it’s alright. $2,000 for a pair of designer shoes? “Great deal!”, he would say.
