The season of transformation

The leaves are turning, the days are shortening and there’s the smell of bonfire in the air. Autumn is well and truly here. The following few months are a season of transition and provide a great opportunity to take stock of your life and decide what you want from the future. Use the potential for introspection to learn more about yourself. Otherwise, make the most of the cooler weather and shape up for the Christmas party season.

Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are famously pointless – 22% fail after a week, 40% after a month, 50% after three months and 81% after two years. The problem is that people are generally forced into them through a kind of wintery collective guilt that wears off as spring approaches. If there’s a change that you want to make about your life, do it now. That way, by the time the season of gluttony arrives, you’ll be in a better position to stay strong.

Exercise

Mid-summer jogging is a nasty, sweaty experience. Autumn jogging, by contrast, provides a wonderful way to experience the changing season and keep relatively cool at the same time. When after-work outdoor activities become limited by the shortening days, try taking up a new indoor hobby. A gym is the obvious choice, but don’t rule out that fencing class.

Beauty

The sun-kissed beach bod of the summer has given way to the cool tones of the incoming winter. Debbie Bhowmik of Realhair says that, ‘We’re being asked for more nude-blonde shades, to get away from the bright blondes of summer, and richer tones in dark hair.’ Other tricks of the trade include foundation that creates greater luminosity by reflecting light back from the face.

Diet

With summery barbecues and evening beer gardens a thing of the past, and wintery over-indulgence a ghost of Christmas future, autumn is the perfect time to address your food intake. The prime aim is for a well-balanced diet that meets your nutritional requirements. If you want to lose weight, calculate the number of calories you need daily, and make sure what you consume amounts to less than that figure. Avoid crash diets and other unsustainable practices. Healthy eating should be a permanent part of life.

Love

Autumn is an undeniably romantic season when even the most hardened singleton’s thoughts turn to forging new relationships. Try taking a personality test and signing up with a free dating site in UK or take out a personal ad in a magazine or newspaper.
