Hell, I know that I wasn’t gonna be able to follow Digital Storytelling, The Course™ as tight as I’d like, but I never thought it’d be like THIS: I just don’t have the TIME!

There are thousands of reasons for this, but mainly I’d say that I’m working w/6 others on developing another on line course about open innovation for cultural development to start here (Spanish only, I’m afraid) in 33 days, and this shit is eating me (I’ve developed the site and that I’m already exhausted).

While thinking how to excuse myself on Twitter for my lack of perseverance I realised that many of you might be thinking on creative excuses in order to explain your own absence on #DS106… so I thought, am I the worst excuse-maker? How many of you are using the TIME as your main argument? So, this is a tagcloud for your twitter conversation (up to 5-6 days, you know) about the course. Despite of the course hashtag, TIME is the most frequent word in the whole RSS feed.

I’ve been thinking for a very very long time (almost two minutes!) what to write about for my first Digital Storytelling course post. After the introduction I made a couple of days ago, I’d like to get into the topic of digital storytelling writing about projects with eyes, mouth and nose.

But then I crashed with the reaility: it’s 21.30 in Spain, I’m tired as hell and I couldn’t accomplish all the tasks in my to-do list for today. I’d really like to read the posts from the rest of the course students, but I’ll cross my fingers and look for some time to do that later. Now it’s time to stop complaining and start sharing, so here it comes my very favourite project on digital storytelling.

The Cosmonaut is a film produced by independent collective “Riot Cinema” and it’s being shot somewhere in Russia right now. But reuniting the money for the film production is a success itself, since The Cosmonaut producers chose crowd founding as their model for money gathering, the entire project shifted from being a film in pre-production to a very exciting experience shared by thousand of micro-producers who not only donated different amounts of money but helped on the script writing, logo design, etc… etc.

In other words, they don’t need to be slaves of the theaters anymore, because they have already got the money from their public. So, the result of film produced by a crowd freely donating couldn’t be more open… neither it could take a biggerst profit of the transmedia storytelling ideas…

Just a few lines to announce that I’m joining Jim Groom’s Digital Storytelling on line open course, beginning monday January 10th 2011. This interesting experience, driven by “edupunk” term creator and Instructional Technology Specialist at the University of Mary Washington, is about learning each other freely (as “in freedom” and as in “we are in a crisis, I’ve got no money”), sharing knowledge and discuss about digital storytelling.

According to the kind of Internet we are living these days (very open, distributed, multiplatform, multiformat and peer-to-peer… and goddamit it should continue like this!), it seems that all of us need to develop skills for self-expression and on line communication. In addition, those of you who doing jobs that require active internet roles -journalists, teachers, marketers, directors, PRs, artists, researchers…- will apprehend some very necessary knowledge that might allow you to lead the game.

So the course is aimed to:

* Develop skills in using technology as a tool for networking, sharing, narrating, and creative self-expression

* Frame a digital identity wherein you become both a practitioner in and interrogator of various new modes of networking

* Critically examine the digital landscape of communication technologies as emergent narrative forms and genres

If you wanna join us, you just need a computer, a good internet connection and a blog or website running in your own domain. Come along, we are open!.

PS: My apologies to my few but very rated Spanish readers who might be wondering what the fuck is going on here: I don’t usually have the time to write new stuff on this weblog and this is not what they might have been expecting… Anyway, don’t be lazy jumping my English written posts, you might learn a lot with us! Apologies to the rest of the world for my poor English, indeed.
