Media Create Japanese Sales Charts for week ending January 29th, 2012

spacer

There are no less than four new games represented on this week's Media Create top ten chart, and that we finally have a PS Vita game on the podium..

PS Vita have rebounded slightly in Japan after week-over-week declines since launch, and the new handheld should send Namco a thank you card for the resurgence, as it was due to Tales of Innocence R’s debut which did it. Over on Media Create's weekly software chart, the Tales game wasn’t the only debut in the top three, as Armored Core V and Resident Evil Revelations took the number one and second place spots,
respectively.

Media Create Japanese Sales Data - Jan 22, 2012

spacer

This week’s Media Create software chart is a sorry sight, with no title selling more than just over 35K units. As we’ve come to expect, the list is dominated by games for Japan’s most popular system - the 3DS - with Mario Kart 7 staying on top.spacer

There are four new entries on this week’s chart: Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure, Onechanbara Z: Kagura, Heroes Phantasia and Beyond the Labyrinth.

None of them sold particularly well but at least their presence on the chart indicates that the pace of video game releases is once again heating up as we approach February.

The most interesting detail to be gleaned from future Media Create reports is whether PS Vita software will make any sort of impact on the top ten chart. The fact that every PSV title is also available on the PlayStation Store from day one will definitely eat into retail numbers, so we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of chart positions PSV software manages to achieve.

The full top 20 for the week with LtD sales in parentheses is posted below.

Media Create Charts for week ending Jan 15th, 2012

spacer

spacer It's time for the weekly Japanese Media Create charts. The narrative is about the same as it has been for a while now: 3DS maintains a tight grip on the software chart, while the system is pretty much the only thing selling very sell in the hardware chart.

However, Mario Kart 7 was kept off the top of the chart for the first time in a few weeks by a new Super Robot Wars on PSP. Other notable new releases included Tecmo and Nintendo's Spirit Camera, which had a quiet opening week; and the 3DS debut of Namco Bandai's Ace Combat series, which seems to be finding its feet on a Nintendo platform.

Media Create Japanese Sales Charts week of November 21-27, 2011

spacer

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword's debut in Japan has topped last week's software sales in the region, while the Nintendo 3DS continues to dominate hardware and move even more units week-over-week.spacer

After spending four days on Japanese retailers' shelves, Nintendo's Skyward Sword for Wii has sold nearly 195,000 copies and is the best-selling game for the November 21-27 period, according to data from tracking firm Media Create, as translated by NeoGAF.

The Sega-published and Imageepoch-developed PSP title 7th Dragon 2020, a sequel to Japan-only DS RPG 7th Dragon, debuted at #2, followed by another newcomer, Dimps and D3 Publisher's PS3 game Saint Seiya Senki (Saint Seiya: Sanctuary Battle in Europe). Super Mario 3D Land, four weeks after its release, remains at #4 and has seen its weekly sales drop by just 1 percent to 61,710 copies. Aside from Bandai Namco and Ganbarion's One Piece: Gigant Battle 2 at #11, it is the only DS/3DS game in the top 20. Five more new titles broke into the top 10: Konami's Metal Gear Solid HD Edition (PS3) at #5, folowed by Level-5's Little Battlers eXperience: Boost (PSP), Bandai Namco's Weiss Schwarz Portable (PSP), Broccoli's Uta no Prince-Sama (PSP), and Bandai Namco's Taiko Drum Master Wii.

Square Enix-published Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Subtitled Edition for PS3 fell from #1 last week to #10, with sales dropping by 84 percent to 27,000. The Xbox 360 version, which was #7 last week, has disappeared from the top #20.
