Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

Apollo 18

September 20th 2011 02:19
Imagine sitting in a movie theater and seeing a brilliant idea onscreen and then watch the makers behind it do absolutely nothing with it for an hour and tewnty eight minutes and one has seen Apollo 18. This film is the latest entry into the found footage cliche that has been sprining up like crazy since Paranormal Activity. However where Paranormal Activity gets things right this film gets horribly wrong.
While the film has an interesting and premsie and deos a decent job of including stock footage from history into the whole scenario it loses everything when the characters land. In most horror films there are actually legitimate scares and shocks, but not in this film. The shocks are pretentiously set up and predictable so one knows exactly when the jump is coming. There is almost nothing interesting happening onscreen and thats what kills this film the most.

It's shame to see such a promising premise wasted with such a lazy and misguided effort in directing, but that is exactly what this film is. Instead of paying for a hollywood cash in just wait for Paranormal Activity 3 coming out this October because at least Oren Peli hires experienced directors to helm the sequels.
