Saigon (also well known as Ho Chi Minh city) is the largest city in Vietnam and also the capital of the country before 1975. Later, 1976 Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City after the former Prime Minister Ho Chi Minh, who went on to become the country's President. However, the city is still widely known by its former name. Originally, Saigon was a small fishing village known as Prey Nokor. The area, which was mostly swampland, is today a bustling city and a financial hub. It is also by far the most cosmopolitan city in Vietnam. Our local company offers a range of Ho Chi Minh City Hotels with some of the best rates available online!
Ho Chi Minh City is a fantastic destination for the independent traveller! An explosion on the senses with the flavours of the Pho, the wafting smells of fried squid and the symphony of thousands of motorbikes!
Saigon is one of the densest urban areas in the world. The best way to explore the city is on a motorcycle known as ‘Honda ôm'. These Japanese motorcycles are the most common means of transport and are easily available all over the city. Although the city does not boast many historical monuments, there is still plenty things to see and do in Saigon.
