Reconciliation

I’m not a girly-girl. Never have been, assuredly never will be. Thus, it crosses my mind this is an out-of-the-ordinary thing for me to do, this quilting business. Further, at a time in my life when I am rapidly stampedeing toward 40, this is not a time when I want to even think about matronly endeavors. People tell me I look like I’m in my 20′s, and while I know that will all come crashing down around me soon, I’m not quite ready to get 100 cats and take up crocheting.

I think quilting is terrifically cool and a medium for all manner of fantastic things – community, heritage, creativity, getting back to basics. I am all, all for these things. I’m not just not quite sure where I fit into the picture, other than as the ignorant, panic-stricken bull in the quilting shop.

This will be an ongoing discussion with myself, as I try to put all the pieces together. Most of me just says, “Screw it! It doesn’t matter why you’re doing it, you don’t have to reconcile anything! Just do it! Enjoy it! Be good at it! It’s ok to like 60′s muscle cars and Science Fiction and motorcycles and adventure and video games and quilting! Quit over-analyzing everything!”
