Dr. Mark Maffet
Dr. Maffet grew up in Mississippi, and attended the University of Mississippi graduating summa cum laude in 1985. He then moved to Houston for medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery also at Baylor. Dr. Maffet was then selected for a fellowship in sports medicine at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
After completion of his fellowship in 1995, he returned to Houston to join the physicians of the Baylor Sports Medicine Institute. He has a faculty appointment at Baylor as a clinical assistant professor and is involved in the training of orthopedic residents and fellows.
Dr. Maffet’s practice concentrates on the latest, cutting-edge techniques of minimally invasive and arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. He has published articles and chapters about arthroscopic shoulder pathology and repair, and about the biomechanics of the windmill softball pitch.
Dr. Maffet has been team physician for the WNBA Houston Comets for the last 12 years, and head team physician for the Houston Baptist University athletics programs for 14 years.
In the past, Dr. Maffet was the team physician for the AFL Arena Football teams during the years they were in Houston.
He has also cares for the athletes of many local and regional high schools as both team physician and orthopedic consultant.
Dr. Maffet is available for treatment of sports injuries, surgical consultations, and second opinions.
