by The Strut on February 14, 2012

For years Van Halen had a tour rider(see above) that was legendary for specifying there to be no brown M&M’s (no offense to Vanessa Williams and her recent announcement). For a long time people chalked this up to Van Halen being typical rockstar divas, but more recently the reason they did this came to light and it makes a lot of sense. 29 Years Ago Today: Marvin Gaye Sings The National Anthem At The NBA All-Star Game

by The Strut on February 13, 2012

On February 13th, 1983 Marvin Gaye sang the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles.  Aside from Whitney Houston’s Superbowl performance, Gaye’s rendition is one of the most legendary performances of The Star Spangled Banner in sports history. The performance unconventionally made use of a drum machine, and Marvin made it work like no one else could have. In 2004 his daughter Nona paid tribute to her late father when she performed at the All-Star game as well.
