The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen
Such a great track I had to reblog this one, too.

Demons by Sleigh Bells
This song is bad ass.
newspeedwayboogie:
New Sleigh Bells. What an onslaught, this sounds like nothing else I’ve heard in a while.

On Our Anniversary
brycedotvc:
It was the first time I can really remember knowing the unknowable. Putting my trust in an instinct with so many competing data points that should have paralyzed my decision making. But I trusted that instinct and it has made all the difference.
Perfect way to explain how you “know”. The gut never lies.
PS: Happy Anniversary and Congratulations.

Praise For Public
The Bean is just over four months and already we’re asked what private school she’ll attend. It’s ludicrous. Even more ludicrous is when we answer, “She’ll go to public school” most people look at us like we’re sentencing her to Sing Sing condemned to walk amongst the “general” population.
That’s why I was delighted when the New York Times ran this article: Affluent, Born Abroad and Choosing New York’s Public Schools. It does a great job explaining why public school is a strong, viable, and sound decision for some people. It certainly is for us. My wife is not a US citizen and echoes the sentiment outlined in the article about being exposed to the most cultures and ethnicities as possible. As for me, I don’t care for the homogenized, rich, nearly all white, private school route either. It’s not real life. It’s a cocoon. A fabricated one at that.
This is our opinion. If you like private school for your kid, great, have at it. Just don’t diss Public school. Especially when you have no idea or no experience with it and your perception is your child will get shived in the hallway between classes. For the record I went to a public high school where I was in the minority and I loved it. I also never got stabbed in the gut. There are a lot of great things going on in Public schools and a lot of great teachers. I’m certain The Bean will benefit from it. I encourage you to read the entire article and learn for yourself.

Blue Blood Blues by The Dead Weather
Jack White is arguably the greatest musician in the last 15 years. This is one helluva cut complete with a riff that mercilessly punches you in the face.

“There’s great stuff between failure and Facebook”
Simple, articulate and spot on post by Chris. This message gets lost in the “hype” of Startup-Land. Kudos to Chris for keeping things in perspective.

Soldier by Harriet
When Luke and Fred tell you to listen to a track, you check it out. Rarely do they disappoint and this does not. I agree with Luke’s post that the track I Slept With All Your Mothers is a few notches above this. Harriet has something great going on.

It’s a weird thing but this band that my daughter turned me onto because one of her friends from college is in it, is the best new band i’ve heard in the past six month

“It’s really hard for charity and art to sit side-by-side. So if you’re saving Japan and my project is right next to you and I’m publishing my first book of poetry, you make me look like an asshole without even trying. And for that reason, we just cut it out because we thought creativity deserves its own space. We already feel too bashful about pursuing what we actually care about.”
- Yancey Strickler, co-founder of Kickstarter (via beautyinbreakdown)
The final sentence of this quote — “we already feel too bashful about pursuing what we actually care about” — is one that I haven’t been able to get out of my head since hearing it however many months ago.

This makes perfect sense. I really admire Kickstarter, Yancey and that team a lot. An amazing company.
