Hello :)

Hi, welcome, and thank you for visiting my blog! My name is Kath. I am a genuinely friendly person who likes to think in depth about a lot of things. I have a suspicion that I do not come from this planet originally, but anyway, now I am here, and I try to make the best out of it. spacer This is me.

spacer

Due to various health issues – to name a few: inflammations in my joints and glands, constant sinus infections, severe hypoglycemia, stomach and gut problems, and lack of energy caused by food intolerances and allergies (you can read the detailed backgrounds here) – I have tried a lot of different approaches to improve nutrition, and although I felt better at times, I never reached a level I felt really well with. More and more, eating as such became a real burden. I knew I had to do it, but it made me feel bad, and I often wished I could just be without. And at a point where I had almost given up hope and already had begun to embrace the fact I would have to live my life without ever feeling good, I somewhat stumbled across Paleolithic nutrition. I decided to give this a try and cut out all dairy (what was very hard for me because I love to drink tea with milk), grains and legumes, and sugar.

What happened then was that I felt an improvement somewhat overnight. My chronical inflammations and stomach cramps got better, and I did not suffer from constant hunger anymore. Still, after doing this for some months, I have found that Paleo (or rather, Primal) eating the way it is understood mostly – heavy on animal fat and fatty, preferably red meat, and often very low on carbs – does not work perfectly well for me, so I have started to carefully reintroduce legumes and some whole grains, and I eat lean cuts of meat and seafood mostly, along with a lot of fresh vegetables. The Paleo diet (mostly in the version proposed by Loren Cordain) is still the overall guideline I follow, I just widened the scope a little.

The reason why I started blogging initially was to document how my health got better, and to exchange with others for experiences, but I more and more felt like extending this blog to cover a wider range of topics, not just nutrition and eating. What this blog has turned out to be mainly about is getting to know and keeping contact to inspiring and lovely people of which many have become friends by now, and the things that play an important role in my life: music, playing the piano, psychology, mindfulness, healthy living, and philosophizing about life in general. You may also notice that I hold a deep love for smileys … However, this blog will still be about eating, simply because I have developed an interest in cooking, trying out new foods and recipes, and learning more about nutrition.

Welcome to My Funny Little Life! I hope you will find something on here you like or find inspiring!

In the image at the head of this page, Kath, you appear to be sitting next to a large cep, albeit growing in an atypically rocky habitat. Did you pick it and eat it? If so, how did you prepare it? Finding something like that would have made my day. I hope it made yours.

Haha, James, you’re right! That’s a cep indeed, but it was made of wood, so no picking and eating. spacer (That photo stems from an excursion to a large park I made with a friend one or two years ago.) Thank you for finding my blog and stopping by! Have a great day (with or without giant ceps)!

Ah. Wooden ceps. Now that I haven’t come across. Perhaps, like wooden decoy ducks, they might lull the real thing into a false sense of security.

HI! I just came across your blog, and I thought I would stop by! Can’t wait to read more spacer

I have just started to eat a paleo-ish diet, so your blog will be great for me when I need some inspiration/ideas on the paleo food.

Hi Alex, and thanks for stopping by! spacer I’ve received major health benefits from Paleo-style eating, but I must warn you I’m a rather light or “white” Paleo eater in the regard that I eat mostly white meat and fish instead of the heavier, red stuff, so you won’t find lots of steaks on here, but a wide range of vegetable-based dishes with some animal foods in them. (I sometimes joke around that I’m 70 % vegan. spacer ) Anyway, I’m so happy you’ve found me! And I’ll be hopping over to your blog soon! (I’m about to leave, so I have something to look forward to when I’m back later.)

I love the way you write and I felt really inspired by some of it .. but most of all I feel excited that there’s so much I heaven’t read yet around here :> so I don’t need to worry about filling my free time with worth while stuff

And the PaleoDiet seems like the thing I was looking for for a long time- for what i managed to find out about it by now..
    Hugs from Poland !

p.s the note “Living with Monsters” made a huge impression on me and.. it was the first time I found someone other than myself dealing with and talking about it and felt very touched by the fact.. So thanks

Hi Michalina, welcome, and thank your so much for your kind comment and liking my blog! You’re certainly not alone with feeling that way, yet I feel sorry because I now how hard it is to struggle and wish it life was easier for you. On the other side, I often think that people who do have are deeper emotionally, and that’s something incredibly valuable actually.

Poland, that’s lovely – the homeland of my favorite musician, Frédéric Chopin. And it’s not so far away. (I live in Germany.) Compared to the distances that lie between me and other people I know via blogging, you’re just around the corner. spacer

      Have a wonderful Sunday evening!
