About Me
Welcome to Brie Fit!
In 2008, I looked like this.
I weighed 200 pounds. An unfortunate weigh-in at the doctor’s office (I previously avoided the scale like the plague) spurred me to make some changes in my life. Initially, I didn’t work out–I just started tracking my calories, drinking more water, and incorporating more fruit, veggies, and lean protein into my diet. The weight started to come off pretty quickly.
In July 2008, I started to work out seriously. I adopted the philosophy, “Go to the gym every other day and just do a little bit more each time.” Adding one minute to my time on the elliptical or running on the treadmill added up fast, and by December 2008, I had lost 50 pounds and felt great. (150 pounds works for my frame. I’m 5’6″, so it is on the high end of “healthy” by most BMI charts, but I have real curves and like to keep it that way.)
I then realized I was kind of “skinny fat,” as in, I was skinny, but I didn’t have any muscle. I bought the book “The New Rules of Lifting for Women” and followed the program to a T. Since doing this program, I have so much more strength and power than I ever imagined. I gained five pounds of pure muscle.
This is me in May 2009, at about 155 pounds:
I started blogging in August 2009 at The Fit Bride about my adventures in fitness and wedding planning. In fall 2009, after taking (and passing!) the bar exam and being unemployed for awhile, I took up running again and started focusing on racing. Since then, I have run a four miler, two 5Ks, an 8K, a 10K, two half marathons, and a full marathon!
Since reaching my lowest weight ever (149 pounds) in January 2009, I slowly gained back 20 pounds over the course of two years. On January 3, 2011, I weighed in at 172.6 pounds, and I’m currently trying to get back into a happier weight range.
My mission is to be happy and healthy in my body. It’s my goal to find the perfect balance of food, exercise, and mental health that keeps me happy, healthy, and confident.
Personal

We live in Kansas City, Missouri, with our menagerie of animals.

And Southpaw is our sweet little tuxedo cat.

I love your blog, glad I stumbled upon it thanks to Mealsandmiles. You seem to be in the same boat as me with work, travel, relationship/marriage and trying to lose weight. Thank you for posting your food diary from Sparkpeople (which I also do) on here and I have found some great recipe ideas at Skinnytaste.com.
Thanks for sharing your story and good luck with your weight loss/health journey. I think you look great and inspire others to loose and stay healthy at the same time!

Oh I have the softest spot for beagles! I grew up with the loveliest beagle called Arwen. She was so tolerant of our playing with her long ears. However many of my things did end up as chew toys…
Glad to have found your blog and really agree with your goal of a good balance.
