My name is Kasia Fink and this is a collection of my most fancied thinkings – or Finkings, if you will.

Kasia rhymes with “Basha” and I wasn’t always a Fink. For the first 30 years of my life, I was Kasia Killer-long-unpronounceable-surname-ending-in-’ski’.

Then one sunny day amid swaying palm trees and surrounded by laughter and love, family and friends, I traded it in for a Fabulous-but-equally-long-new-surname. This new name, however, gets quite often and very handily shortened to Fink, thus fulfilling my lifelong dream of a name that would fit into the little squares at the top of those darned Scantron bubble sheets.

During the first two decades of my life, I did a lot of things that now seem like they happened to someone else. Do you ever get that? It’s like your life is a book that you read a long time ago, and only when someone brings it up do bits and pieces of it emerge out of the fog. For example, sometimes I can’t believe I…

  • grew up on an acreage outside Calgary and had a pet cow named Oly
  • lived in France for awhile, during which I only went to Paris once (le dumb!)
  • served people Diet Coke at an altitude of 30,000 ft (and learned that bubbles + altitude = cranky passengers and crop dusting)
  • sat on Santa’s knee at the actual Arctic Circle in Finland (what, did you think he lives at the North Pole? We’ve been DUPED, people!)
  • was once in the middle of eating steak when my little brother cracked a joke about it being Oly… and my dad didn’t deny it

Today I live in Vancouver, Canada with my lovely and very indulgent husband. This city inspires me like no other and there is fodder for good finkings around every corner and in the most unexpected places.

I see goodness in everyone. I see beauty in the most mundane things.

What else can I tell you?

I love chocolate mousse I like to go for walks I read a lot I cherish my family I work for a software company  I love my friends I heart purple I adore shoes. And purple shoes? Gahhh, you don’t even want to know.

Thanks for reading along.

Say howdy / bonjour / dzien dobry!

If you have a thought that’s just way too amazing for a puny comment box, drop me an email at kasiafink at gmail. It would make my day.

I just read this about me and you are too cute, I love it. I traded my short last name for a very long last name that always gets shortened to “ish” That’s why I went with Style-ish. :)

The above sentence from your profile applies directly to me too! From one Kasia +ski to another, sto lat!

I love your blog. I have been following you on Weddingbee since I said “Yes, I will marry you.” I actually wanted to be a bee, but after the first rejection didn’t try again since I was too close to my I-do’s.

I just found your blog; I wanted to say hello, and you inspire me! What an awesome about me page.
I had a childhood experience similar to your story of Oly, only mine was a bunny. And it was Easter. I’ll leave it at that. :/

I wish you all the best in your future endeavors; congrats on your Olympian appearance! (What an amazing experience!)
