Please update your feeds and keep stopping by! I’ll be updating all the links and making some more changes to the site this month. Big exciting stuff. Though I’m not sure if I’ll keep up all the free download links and sidebar action happening here–I’ll probably archive it, heads up.

We made some pots.

My mom and I made some hypertufa pots a month or so back. We had a ton of fun making them together in her garage, decked out with face masks and chemical gloves I had a glimpse of us on Breaking Bad together. Alas, we stuck to the task of hypertufa making.

Once I proposed the idea to my mother she ran like crazy with it so I merely needed to show up to the event. My parents are the type that like to have stuff on hand to make or do pretty much anything under the sun. (Imagine what an awesome childhood that made for me!) Surprisingly, she didn’t have the perlite, portland cement and peat moss on hand but was eager to have it at the ready. While I was looking for scissors to open up the bag of perlite, I found a pair of, and I’m not exaggerating, 14″ scissors. When I asked what in the world possessed them to need such a ridiculous long pair of shears, my mother matter-of-factly stated, for wallpapering. Of course! The last time she did that was 20 years ago but okay, I’m all for division of labor.

We did the whole bit in a bin in a wheelbarrow which made it easier to mix (we’re short) and to move around since the whole mess is pretty heavy. There is lots of information and videos online (like here) but we ended up going with a one to one to one ratio.

Here are a few of the pots we made lounging about in my mother’s lawn. I know it’s not quite a show stopper yet, but just you wait. I’ll show completed photos after they have set longer. My mother claims she read they need to cure for a few months before rinsing them and potting them so I’m waiting patiently for the right time. She’ll let us know.

Oscar, Charlie and Chloe

I found this half-written post which originally was talking about fall being in the air, but really this is all about our cats. Who am I kidding… we’re crazy cat people. I am actually to blame for making her into a crazy cat person but I think we’re equal now.

After I catch up on wedding topper orders, we’re heading to the Grand Canyon and Santa Fe on a road trip. Anything you feel like we must see?

For your people.

I’ve been busy busting a tail feather around here! There are lots of fun new things your people might need. Or maybe just you, if you’re like me! There are several new stamp designs that were a big hit at Crafty Bastards in D.C.! (Simply click the images to go to the product page.)

The biggest hits were the “Homemade” stamp and the “Snapshot Camera Stamp” which makes sense. And speaking of Crafty Bastards, you can vote for me as the Craftiest Bastard in their annual contest here. (It’s a super fast process.)

And to show your love for The Small Object–tote bags and keychains!! I love the logo and since we’re coming up on 8 years it’s time it started popping up on more goods.

This tote bag is not super large so it works well for kids and as a smaller tote for adults. It’s a great size for your daily stuff and all those items those crazy kids just can’t seem to leave home without. Available here.

Look!! It’s flying! A super durable logo keychain that will carry your keys in style. Available here.

Wedding Topper Order Update:
As you may have seen, all new orders are currently closed. I am taking this time to catch up on current orders and re-evaluate my ordering process. For those trying to plan future wedding topper orders, when I accept orders again, I will provide shorter production periods (hopefully 1-3 weeks) but will only be taking a limited number of orders per week. The number of orders taken each week will be dependent on my schedule that week so I can offer faster turnarounds and not be scheduling pieces so many months in advance. I hope this will be easier but it may mean that the slots available each week sell out and you’ll have to check back the following week.
I anticipate opening up to new orders again in November.

It’s no surprise, I love miniature portraits. These are based on us made by Katie Keally and I adore them! See more photos of the pieces here that she photographed.

We’re back from Chicago (last week actually), I’m still way behind on emails but the weather was amazing and I loved meeting so many of you and seeing lots of you again!! Much fun! Thank you!!

Two sides.

I have been working on developing a project that is two-sided and it hit me that’s what I should do to my bin display. One side the bins, the other side pegboard for the stamps. I made the table, used legs from Ikea which easily unscrew for transport. I’ve always wanted something that could be placed in the center of the tent and allow folks to freely walk all around so I think this might be it. The whole piece is 5′ by less than two feet so in a 10′ x 10′ tent it should leave plenty of room to mill about. Certainly, more than now as you see it jammed in my studio.
