One Lonely Knight - Arto Mwambe
Beisswenger and Phillip Lauer ran into each other when releasing solo 12"s on Punkt Music (RIP) in the early 2000s. Since then they've been sculpting a live sound with the occasional release on underground german labels. This track outlines their deep skudge electronic crushed up rhythms

Belle Rive – Nicolas Masseyeff
Following a string of well received EPs, Nicolas released a solid album "Motherland" on Stephan Bodzins 'Herzblut' label. This is one of several standout tracks, deep with pulsating synthesizer waves and an overall theme that’s both uplifting as melodramatic.

Can You Feel It (Supernova Remix) – Chez Damier
Chez Damier has played close witness to many of the pivotal moments in the history of house and techno and 'Can You Feel It' stands up against every house record ever made. 20 years later Supernova adds to the package with a deep, rich, typically twisted, rolling groove.

Simple Girl (Tiger & Woods Remix) – Dale Earnhardt Jr
T&W have placed their very gifted, very dance-oriented hands on the single, remaking it into a chilled-out upbeat electronic song for any weekend fiesta. Billowing soprano vocals scat for most of the seven minutes, intermixed with coquettish xylophones and drum machines. It’s smooth, lush, vivifying, and one song that will stay on rotation for the next few weeks.

Heartbreaker (Extended) – Crazy P
The UK musicians in electronica outfit Crazy P started out with a deep love of house and disco. Their fifth album, When We On, is a buttery mix of beats with the honey-hued tones of Danielle Moore. Today's Top Tune is "Heartbreaker."

—————————————-

In Love – Tim Green
Feel-good, atmospheric, sunny-side disco-inspired piece. House at its finest with its smooth vocal cuts and creamy synth lines. A golden wave of dance club nostalgia comes over us in the most beautiful way, whilst holding its sounds rooted in the modern Tech House scene.

Jazz Fusic – Chris Lattner
Fuse resident Enzo Siragusa, teams up with Lattner to create a querky little houser with a twist of a smile about it, Chunky kicks, overlay statements and a groove melody you can switch the lights off to.

Elements Of Fife (Main Mix) – The Revenge
Scotish rising star, Graeme Clark, started creating a skewed blend of electronic music using a couple of his dad’s old drum machines, a 4 track and a sampler. This has continued to develop producing tracks like this slow grooving New York / Chicago style percussive house club jam

Playdo (Laura Jones Remix) – Matthew Burton & Nick Lawson
A hypnotic groover, the original mix of 'Playdo' is alive with quirky sonic detail and trippy spontaneity, the spring-like sounds and spry electric keys provide ying to the yang of the moody bassline, clicky drums and evocative vocal ris

Step Aside (Lightweight) – Life and Death
A slice of laconic lazy house with growling, pulsing bass line gradually turning more and more analogue and acidic as the warm enigmatic omnipresent pads infuse snarling dismissive vocals…serious sonic skullduggery.

———————

Under The Sheets – Maceo Plex
Fresh release from Jonny Whites’ No.19 Label, ‘Under The Sheets’ uses a deep hypnotic bassline, old school drums and distorted vocals to create a song which is mesmerizing from start to finish.

Relax (Jordan Peaks Rogue Rework) – Nicco
The combination of a pumping bassdrum, garage-house style snares, rolling bassline and techy synth stabs makes this one of Jordan Peaks signature tracks.

Quell – Real People
Working with labels such as Ibadan, These Days, Offering recordings, Kolour Recordings and Blockhead Recordings, Quells music is not easily put into one category. Full of heavily reverberated vocals and uplifting strings make this track one for the old school house fans.

Wavedancer (Monika Kruse & Thomas Schumacher Remix) - Monika Kruse
Releasing her first track in 1996 and still staying up to date, techno legend Monika Kruse releases this minimalistic techno track.

Inside 007 – Marc Kinchen (MK)

November 26th, 2011 at 8:00 pm (Interview)

spacer

After starting out at an incredibly young age in Detroit as a protégé of Techno god Kevin Saunderson, Marc moved to New York becoming a prolific figure during the halcyon period of house music. MK became one of the genre’s most respected producers and in-demand remixers whilst his timeless productions have had a renaissance through the sets of the Crosstown Rebel collective.

Freek 'N You (MK Dub) – Jodeci
1995

• What was the music scene like where you grew up?
Well I grew up in Detroit. Detroit is like dance music House music Mecca, no matter what type of music it is if you listen to on the radio every sound on the radio they play they “speed” up, pitch up so you can actually dance to it. I grew up on that so it’s embedded in me.

I Can't Get No Sleep (MK mix) – Masters at Work
1993

• How would you describe your electronic sound, who are your influences?
Hearing and meeting Kevin Saunderson influenced me then things began to happen. I moved up to New York and that sound mixed with what I grew up on gave me the perfect idea, I knew where to go. I knew how to keep my influence I also know how to make a down tempo danceable that was just in me. New York was known for being more mellow smooth underground type of sound and in some way I knew how to give it energy how to make the sound more alive.

Can You Feel It (New York Dub) – Chez Damier
1992

• Out of your entire discography, which one still stands out for you?
When I made “Burning” I don’t know if it changed my life it’s weird because I was so young when I made that record I was 18 I did not know the feedback. I put the record out myself and distributors kept calling back to reorder. I had nothing to gage it on, I did not know if those numbers where bad or good or average, I was thinking it was average it was not 10 million copies I had enough to buy a new car I guess it was ok.

Burning (Vibe Mix) – MK
1991

• How do you balance your old underground tracks with your more commercial work?
The funny thing it’s a lot harder bouncing the two styles than people may think, one of the other thing is that I work with Willow Smith which is more Hip Hop kind of edgy, comparing that to Pitbull which is more totally commercial. I keep trying to bring back MK and that’s raw and pretty hard to juggle that’s why it has taken so long to do an Mk record.

Push The Feeling On (MK Dub of Doom) – Nightcrawlers
1995

• Are we going to hear any more underground MK records?
The underground records are coming; it’s good that I DJ right now and touring. Like I said I don’t DJ that much these couple of shows, playing certain MK records people are going mad when I play my tracks. I guess that this is the type of sound that’s in, the “MK sound”. I have just done a remix for Morgan Geist under his ‘Strorm Queen’ guise and I will be working on more material soon.

Given (MK Dub) – 4th Measure Men
1997

• I’ve heard you’ve starting playing a couple of shows, hows that been?
The first one I did was with my brother Scottie Deep in Leeds, La Loop party. I didn't know what the turnout would be. The place was full and as soon as I played the Burning the crowd lost it, they absolutely lost it, was a good feeling. The response was amazing the funny thing was that the oldest person was like 25 years old, to be able to play my records and other deeper sound that I like. It’s very exciting to see and makes me want to go back producing a real MK record.

+ 2 Extras

—————————————————————

I Wanna Go Back (Featuring Blake Baxter) (Original Mix) – Ben Sims
Having developed an impeccable reputation, Sims is not doubt a legend in the world of techno. The emphatic drive of this huge sounding thumper takes things back to his home territory with the addition of rhythmic trumpets and tasty detroit vocals.

Pitched to the Max (Sasha Carassi Remix)  - Tom Hades
Sasha Carassi takes this tune down an industrial subliminal route, Carefully letting off shuffling snare and attacking hats to guide through the darkness whilst using trademarked atmospherics to create his renowned, ominous hard vibe.

From Within – Johannes Heil
This landmark label release harks back to Johannes anthems of the nineties with fluctuation melodic patterns, atmospheric strings and constant 4 on 4 kicks.

+

Slow Dance – Heartthrob
New Yorker-turned-Parisian-turned-Berliner Jesse Siminski is producing some of the more accessible side of the Minus label whilst staying true to things deep dark and minimal.

————————————————————————–

Think About It (Maceo Plex Remix) – Martin Dawson
With a firm 'family' feel, Pets Recordings have been lucky enough to play host to many of their talented friends, all feeding off the special close-knit vibes to turn in some of their most special work. I heard Matt Tolfrey play this tune at Krankbrothers which started tearing at the seams as the deep groove bassline flowed through the temporary loft conversion. Infectious vocals, uplifting tones and alternating atmospheres… Maceo still leads the scene.

The Sun Can't Compare (Long Version) – Larry Heard
This timeless track is mesmerizing, drawing on subtle features of acid house which recall back into the glory days of the rave movement whilst painting a deep atmospheric picture with pin-point edits, 303 pattern hat slaps, stripped back beats complimented by sensual vocal lyrics. This track has been slipped into a plethora of different genre sets, from deep dark techno to house to future garage.

Lady Luck (The Groovedoctor Edit) – Jamie Woon
Man of the moment, Luciano was seen smashing various live edits of Lady Luck all summer at his Pacha and Ushuaia residencies and across his fully packed worldwide DJ roster. Overlaying the pure tone vocals of Jamie Woon along with a set of other sample suprises into his usual portfolio pumping underground tech house tunes, Luciano was able to recognisably carve out the summer party landscape.

+

Amame – Intruder
Now and again a track emerges that is effortlessly cool as well as being an out and out show stopper which leaves a constant enquiry of what is this?and how can I get hold of it? Well thanks to the guys at Defected for sending it over to me last month, this track is an absolute anthem, electronic scaling riffs, kick clicks, hat taps and the most infectious vocal of the summer.

Cocoon Closing Party Review – Amnesia 2011

October 7th, 2011 at 3:34 pm (Clubs, Selekt, Tech House)

spacer

As you would expect, Cocoon Heroes Ibiza closing was nothing short of monumental with Amnesia packed to the rafters for the all-star line-up. The night saw Loco Dice kicking of the proceedings, working into a powerful hour live set from 2011's hottest talent Maetrik (aka Maceo Plex) before Sven Vath stepped in to drive the energy right the way through to the early hours. On the terrace, Ricardo Villalobos was joined by Raresh, Onur Ozer and Tobi Neumann with the whole thing going to an unprecedented back-to-back session with a midday finish.

Cocoon Main Room:

Bekeke - Italoboyz & Blind Minded
Arriving at cocoon at 1.30, Loco Dice was already blazing the main room with huge tech house techno hybrid hammers. Amnesia's ice cannons firing causing pandemonium as dry ice viciously attacked the dance floor like a science fiction fog before evaporating into the increasingly sweat-filled din.

Crush On Me – Maetrik
Maetrik
moulded the room into his unique style, using halluciognetic vocals, hypnotic beats and a power that is deep and latenly noisy at the same time to put the dancefloor over the edge of insanity. For those who weren't there, A recording of his hour long Live set will be released as a CD on Cocoon Records!

Icon - Christian Burkhardt & Einzelkind
This big tech house hybrid production released on Cocoon Compilation Cocoon emerged early in Svens Vath's set, the electro groove bassline warming up the crowd and paving the way for some hard ripping electronic techno that was set to thunder through the main room.

Cocoon Terrace:

Mauersegler - Andre Galluzzi
Onur Özer casually warmed the terrace with the more spaciously percussive side of his sound, playing a series of summery raw house tracks building the tempo for later shenanigans. Andre Galluzzi himself is no stranger to the cocoon amnesia terrace and neither are his productions which frequent the terrace sets of Vilallobos, Carola, Raresh, and Onur Ozer.

Street Movement (Olene Kadar Tool Edit) – Samuel Deep
With the terrace really beginning to kick of after 7.30, Villalobos began to really work his magic, upping the tempo and dropping some spanking techno and house anthems such as 'Luvstuffs – Sagat' and even a edit of 'ABC – Look of the Love'. The break rhythms of this tune stormed through the main room with frequencies emerging across Amnesia's custom built  phazon soundsystem.

Lombardo – Dirty Harris
In a textbook Villalobos terrace style, he reverted briefly to dropping into a free form splatter of beds of noise, diffused chattering, distressed horns, off kilter sound effects and unexpected crunching drops before launching back into a pounding groovy fiesta with Raresh
