About 60 in 3

What’s 60 in 3?

This website is a place for me, Gal Josefsberg, to share my knowledge of fitness and health. It’s also a place for you to share your own experiences, mistakes, lessons and information.

Who are you?

My name is Gal Josefsberg. I was born in 1973 in Israel. I moved to the San Francisco Bay area at the age of 10 and have spent the majority of my life here, with the exception of four years spent on the east coast for college.

How did you get interested in health and physical fitness?

Around the beginning of 2003, I had a personal health crisis. It wasn’t anything as bad as a heart attack, but it made me realize that I was heading down the wrong path when it came to my health. I weighed almost 300lbs (I’m 5’11″) and I barely climbed the stairs up to my bedroom every night. I decided to turn my life around and so I started reading, learning, trying new things, failing and then trying some more. All of this led me to become interested in health, fitness and how the human body works.

Were you always overweight and out of shape?

I was never an athlete, but I was in relatively good shape for most of the early part of my life. I walked, I biked and I loved playing outdoors. My parents enjoyed a variety of cuisines and they taught me to really like foods of all types. They also prevented me from overindulging my sweet tooth, for which I thank them.

Then I moved out to college and things began to change. My school featured a cafeteria with a variety of food options and an all you can eat style buffet three times a day. I was working a full time job to put myself through school while studying, which meant less time spent being physically active. I also discovered computers and the internet at about this time, which meant any spare time I had was spent in front of the PC.

Things got worse when I graduated and moved back to the bay area. I worked for a small software startup during the techboom, which meant I was always busy. The internet was blooming and there were always new sites, new games and new experiences to try out. I was also living on my own which meant junk food all day. My physical activity went to zero and my life became work, junk food and the computer. That’s how it stayed until my health hit bottom.

So why did you start 60 in 3?

Well, as much as I love physical fitness, I still enjoy the internet, and I wanted to find a way to combine my two favorite hobbies. I knew that there were other people in the exact same situation I had been a few short years earlier. They knew their health was poor but they didn’t know how to change things.

Because I had tried so many things, I felt that I had a lot of knowledge to share about what worked and what didn’t. I also wanted to create a place where people could share their own experiences and tips. There’s too much misleading information out there from companies who want to sell you something, but if we could all share our knowledge, I bet we could help each other avoid mistakes and become healthier.

Are you a medical or fitness professional?

No, and I don’t pretend to be. If you have a serious issue, go see a doctor. If you’re looking for medical advice, check with a medical professional. I am just an experienced amateur looking to share his knowledge and opinions.

What do you do when you’re not writing 60 in 3?

I’m a product manager at a small software company.

No, I meant for fun

I’m a product line manager at a small software comp… err… wait, you meant outside of work. Well, I enjoy hiking, biking, reading science fiction, watching movies and spending time with my friends and family.

How can I contact you?

There are a variety of ways to contact me posted in the “Contact Me” page.

Why the 60 in 3 name?

60 in 3 stands for 60lbs in 3 years. I was incredibly proud of that accomplishment even though I still had more weight to go. In fact, I am now 20lbs lighter, but that doesn’t change the incredible feeling I had when I stepped on that scale and saw that I was 60lbs lighter.

The name also remind me of my approach. I don’t believe in get thin quick schemes or in a month long workout routine. I believe in life long changes and permanent habits. Change is gradual and we shouldn’t expect our health to improve over night. If you’re looking for a quick solution, you’re at the wrong website. 60lbs in 3 years, that’s about right.

Some of the ads on your site offer quick solutions…

Yah, I know, I don’t really control what Google offers as advertisements on my site.

So why show ads at all?

Because running this site is not free. I’m not looking to get rich off of it, but I would at least like to break even spacer

Is this a weight loss site?

No, I don’t believe that thin is the same as healthy. It’s true that being healthy might lead to some weight loss in some people, but not always. There are many people who are healthy but slightly overweight, just as there are many thin people who aren’t healthy.

Are you trying to sell anything?

Nope. I have a day job so I’m not really trying to make a living off of this site. This is purely a hobby.

Are you affiliated with any other company or website?

Nope.

How often do you post new articles?

I usually post once a week.

Can I contact you off the site?

Sure, my contact information can be found in the “contact me” page.
