About

Short version…
My name is Sandy Dempsey.

I quit my high paying, corporate, day j-o-b in November 2009 to follow my heart and create the life of my dreams as a writer and entrepreneur.

I am the founder and creative director of Dreaming Cafe Ventures, LLC, a diverse, creative, multi-media education and consulting company dedicated to serving the needs of the lifelong learning community with a primary focus in the areas of personal growth and development, creative self-expression and self-employment and entrepreneurship.

My interests include books (reading, writing, collecting and selling), journaling, lifelong learning, technology, solving problems, data analysis, entrepreneurship and helping people discover a world of possibilities. I know, it’s a pretty eclectic combination of passions and I didn’t even list them all. I am also what Barbara Sher calls a ‘scanner’.

Long version…
You already know my name, so here’s my story…

I live in Southern New Jersey. I was born and raised here. I am the oldest of three children. I am happily married. I have no children, but I do have three nephews and two nieces whom I adore.

Throughout my life I’ve held numerous jobs ranging from farm labor to factory worker to retail clerk to a white collar senior management position. One year I had thirteen different jobs, all in different fields.

I have had two distinct careers, the first in dietetics and the second in logistics, distribution and transportation.

I learn quickly and get bored easily. I changed my college major at least six times and never finished any of them.

But, the two subjects I have never grown bored with, and can never learn enough about, are life and self.

I’ve always felt like there was more to life than just eating, sleeping, working, and shopping. I remember being ten-years-old, gazing out of my bedroom window, looking at the stars in the night sky wondering, “Why am I here?”, “Why was I born?”

Those questions have never left me.

As I grew older and took on more and more of the expected adult roles in society, I continued to feel like there was something missing. I just I didn’t know what.

I wanted more out of life than just a job, a house, a husband and a family. I wanted to know who I was, and why I was here. I wanted to really live life, and I wanted to make a difference.

This discontent and these questions started me out on an adventure, a creative journey of self discovery. It has been one of the hardest things I have ever done but, is also one of the greatest gifts I have ever given myself. That adventure, that journey continues today.

Along the way I came to realize that I had a deep desire to share what I had learned and to help others begin and travel the creative journey to self discovery.

Reaching this point wasn’t easy. Deciding what came next was even harder.

Years ago I had defined my life’s mission simply as: “to learn, to grow and to share”. I felt called to help others and to make a difference.

But, for a long time I doubted myself and what I was called to do. For a long time I was confused about how I could help others. I had the dream, but no clear way to make it happen. So, I sat with the doubt and confusion until I began to see a way that I could make this dream come true. It didn’t happen overnight. It didn’t happen in a few months. It took years of staying true to my life’s mission and dreaming.

Then one day while journaling all the pieces fell together and the dream was born. That dream has taken the form of The Dreaming Café.

The Dreaming Cafe is my way of fulfilling what I believe is my life’s mission and my life’s calling.

It is still a work in progress, and like life, I imagine it always will be.

Define yourself by your dreams for tomorrow, not today’s reality or situation.”…Sandy Dempsey
