Hey ladies, I want put out my disclaimer right here right up front, I'm not discriminating here, just calls em like I seez em, okay? Sooo, back in the day when Men were Men, seriously, back in the day when I was in High School there was three degrees of some pretty serious separation going on between the academics, the jocks and the metal heads. I'm thankful though, I managed to float back and forth between them pretty easily, it really kept things interesting and I thought I was “pretty cool,” seriously! LOL

It's so interesting as I look back at the the different shop classes and how I felt about the work involved and the men that instructed us. Real men, teaching us how to do real men's work with tools that had been around for many, many years. Sounds a little like Tim Arnold on Home Improvement around here, Uooh, Uooh, Uaaaaaaauh. Never-the-less, thinking back on the men who instructed us, I would have to say that these men were outstanding personalities who always directed the guys to take the high road no matter what we chose to do. Amen for that.

We had Mr. Porter in Metal Shop, Mr. Allen in Print Shop and Mr. Leiu in Wood Shop each with their own strong opinions earning them each a nice nick name to go along with it from the guys. Since we're here to talk about marketing online, I'm going to have to leave you hanging on the nick names, but let me get to the point of why I bring it up at all here.

We had the tools and we had a sign(s)...

Let me clear that up for you. We had our own student award which never left the school, but was given to honor one of the outstanding student projects in one of the shops. It was voted on by the students of each shop to get three semifinalists and then all the classes voted on one overall champion and that's the class where the trophy resided for the next year until it was time to honor the next student.

The trophy meant a lot to us even though it was a simple wooden sign about three or four feet long and maybe a foot or a foot and a half high. It was painted white with a nice border two or three inches from the edge with the words, “Slow Down” painted in the middle. This simple but powerful tool was a reminder to think carefully about your project, then plan and execute an award winning entry. These days we have so many amazing tools to work with it can really be a blast if we know what we're doing. With so much out there, it tends to make you a little crazy trying to figure it out, but the good news is you don't have to figure it all out, you just have to start.

Go online and search for 'marketing tools,' last time I searched the term I got 125,000,000, yeah, that's one hundred twenty five million results for marketing tools. Where do you begin? How do you and I find a way to sell anything online with that kind of competition? Surprisingly, it's not as hard as you think, here's a good suggestion on where to start, no, it's a great suggestion! Keep it fun and -

    Slow - Down!
