Thom Yorke DJs, releases 12″ with Burial/Four Tet, and collaborates with DOOM
In case you haven’t been following music news in the last few weeks, Thom Yorke (of Radiohead fame) has been getting a lot of attention of late; but surprisingly, none of it is Radiohead related at all. In short, Yorke recently recorded a few songs with Burial and Four Tet, played a surprise DJ set at Low End Theory in Los Angeles, and is now rumored to be working with DOOM on some future songs that may eventually become a joint album.
After Four Tet and Burial last hooked up for their excellent Moth/Wolf Cub split in 2009, I was desperately hoping that the two would soon join forces again ...

Flashflooder’s Top 50 Albums of 2010
I’ve been annually making a “Best of” albums list since my college days (thanks to KALX) in order to document the albums I personally find most interesting during the year, while also conveniently creating a future reference point for all of the moments and memories associated with that music and time of my life (and for me, those often go hand in hand). Add in the fact that I like making lists of this sort, and it’s fun to put a little competition into my favorite hobby (listening to music).
This past year I made an effort to keep track of my favorite albums starting in January by creating a spreadsheet where I inputted ...

Swedish House Mafia – The Making of “Oneâ€
The Swedish House Mafia is the epic super DJ trio consisting of Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, & Axwell, and if the names don’t ring a bell, chances are that one of their songs would (trust me). 2010 was a huge year for them bolstered by their blockbuster hit single “One” which quickly became the rave/party anthem of the year with good reason.
With “One”s slick production and catchy bass riff (which as they explain, is really not a bass line at all) it’s not hard to see why the song is so popular; but how does one (or three in this case) go about thinking up and creating such a song? ...

Bassnectar Live at the Fox Theater
Last month I got the privilege of going backstage for the Bassnectar/Eskmo/Amplive show at the Fox Theater on Dec. 11 for work reasons (I helped build some custom Midi Fighters for Amplive which you can check out here). To say the least, the show was pretty entertaining, especially from the vantage point of backstage and the vip areas.
But don’t just take my word for it, check out some pictures and video I took below with a work camera (that puts my regular one to shame). Sorry for the terrible audio quality on the videos though, being right behind the speakers that ...

The Books Live at the Palace of Fine Arts
The Books played live at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, CA a while back on Tuesday Nov. 30 and they were great. I had meant to write a proper review but never actually got around to it so I’m just going to leave a couple videos instead. Unfortunately I forgot my camera and only had my phone to take a few pictures. However, I must say that the venue was amazing and the lounge area (in the picture below) outside the theater was also really nice.
Also, (in case you didn’t know) ...

Four Tet’s Releases New Material on his FACT Mix
Here’s another post that really should’ve been written up at least a couple months ago, Four Tet’s recent mix he did for FACT magazine. Oh well, better late than never. By the way, although I’m only going to talk about Four Tet’s mix, there are a ton of other great artists that have done FACT Mixes, and I would highly recommend checking them out.
You can judge for yourself, but I must say that this mix is pretty spectacular and as a result, it’s been a mainstay on my playlist since first hearing it. Not to mention that he’s been playing a few of the ...

Phaseone’s Mad Weight
Alright, I’m going to keep it short and sweet. Phaseone is a St. Louis based hip hop producer who has made a name for himself by remixing some notable indie talents, putting out a few quality mix tapes (which we talked about before here), and releasing a solid debut album (most of which he gives away as free downloads at his website here).
A while back when I was scraping the internet for more of his tunes I found his 2008 self-released album Mad Weight, a 48 track collection of beats much in the style of similar ...

My DJ Techtools Article “DJ Booths Are Getting Crazy!â€
Sorry for being so m.i.a. to this blog lately (and no, i’m not referencing her) but times have been pretty busy having just recently moved to San Francisco while keeping hard at work with the personal and professional projects I’ve got going right now (which will hopefully amount to some cool stuff to talk about here later).
Along those lines, I wrote an article recently for DJ Techtools showcasing some of the more interesting DJ booths being used in live setting these days from an entertainment aspect. It showcases the likes of DJ Shadow and his ridiculous Shadow Sphere,  Deadmau5, Etienne De Crecy, and Vitalic’s V-Mirror show.
And seriously, if any ...
