Thanks London VMUG + Community!

I was surprised to get a call from Piglet London VMUG community leader of note, Alaric, who informed me that despite my appalling attendance at LonVMUG in the second half of 2011, I somehow managed to come in 3rd place of the “Best of Community Presentations 2011” awards with my ‘Rethinking Infrastructure’ session. I am quite sure that it was only because Massimo was in the room during my session, and people mistakenly thought the cool vibe was due to my presntation and not his presence.

As anyone in the open source world knows, community is important. But what they may not know is that even in the world of closed source technologies like those from VMware, vibrant communities exist for the very same reasons - to help each other get better at what we do, through sharing knowledge.

Although I’ve been a little distant from the London VMware community for the past few months, lookout for my return in 2012 - I’ve been learning a lot, and hope to share some of my insights with you in the very near future.

Thanks again to all who attended my session, and thanks LonVMUG committee for the prize - in case anyone is wondering what I’ll spend it on, it will likely be a copy of VMware Fusion for my new Macbook (so I can run ESXi and SmartOS ;), the Robot Chicken Star Wars box set and a philosophy book or 2 ;)
