Foster Care To Success

“Our goal is to start relationships between foster youth and people in their communities who care about their futures.” – Eileen McCaffrey.

Foster Care to Success (FCS) is a national movement that harnesses the power of volunteer groups to support foster youth in their own communities. Through FCS, caring, committed volunteers support young people in middle and high school through meaningful, consistent educational and enrichment activities. FCS provides opportunities for adults, including those who have experienced foster care and adoption, to contribute their voices and vision to improving today’s foster care experience. In addition to forging meaningful connections for youth, the collaboration between child welfare agencies, volunteer groups, and national organizations will dispel foster care myths and misconceptions and contribute to reshaping the system of care that we provide to some of our most vulnerable citizens.

In today’s economy, agencies struggle to provide more than bare-bones programs of support for the young people in their care. When one worker wears three or more hats and reduced budgets are limited to essential services, programs such as tutoring, music, art and sports understandably fall by the wayside. FCS provides a unique opportunity for groups to bring their collective expertise, enthusiasm and commitment to young people in foster care and provide these very programs, at no cost to the agency and with great benefit to the youth. FCS volunteers will enrich not only the lives of foster youth, but their own lives as well as they build relationships and help these young people to envision and work towards a promising future.

We invite you to join the movement!

Apply to participate in Foster Care to Success as an agency with youth to serve, or as a volunteer group wishing to serve them. FCS is rolling out in selected states throughout 2010, and although applying today does not guarantee that your organization will be immediately matched through the program, it will ensure that your community is given priority as FCS launches nationwide in January 2011.
