I have never installed or removed PCI or PCI-E cards from a computer. I simply followed the instructions that came with the Magma expansion chassis, along with some additional visual help from YouTube. After completing the installation of the cards and making all of the necessary connections to my computer, I hit the power switch and booted my computer. I then opened up a Pro Tools session and was able to play back a session without any issues. Magma is the way to go!! I am astonished at how easy it was to get it up and running.

Several Pro Tools users were happy to report that they were able to easily and cost effectively upgrade to a new MacPro without upgrading to PCI Express cards. Magma's 6 Slot PCI Expansion system (PE6R4) allowed them to install their PCI cards into the external chassis and use the PCI Express host card inside the MacPro to connect to the cards inside the Magma chassis without problems.

Our company is involved in replacing older "supermini" computers used in real-time applications such as flight simulation, radar, telemetry and power plant monitoring. We have made considerable investment in developing our own PCI cards. Motherboards having multiple PCI or PCI-X slots becoming increasingly hard to find, we have become more reliant on PCI expansion products. Magma offers just what we need and we can use either the PCI interface or PCI-e interface cards depending upon the configuration of the motherboard. Since the systems we offer have multiple I/O cards we can add as many as 10 PCI cards. Magma offers a 4U chassis with either 7 or 13 PCI slots allowing us to configure the systems for maximum effectiveness. We have had tremendous support from them over the years we have been using their products.

While using a HD Native card from Avid installed in a Magma ExpressBox1 on a MacBook Pro, was able to achieve a 70 track mix session looping with 32 sample buffers and a lot of plug-ins without errors. Pretty impressive!

Apple Computer has successfully launched an internal operations solution using the Magma 4 Slot PCI Express Expansion system. "We will be using these in Xserves with two NVIDIA graphic cards, and a 4gbps Fiber Channel card. The second server slot will have a 10GbE network adapter installed in it. They will be going into our Global Security Operations Center and will be powering the "desktop" computers in the ops center. There will be 16 systems total, 12 in the ops center, 2 in the training lab, and 2 for backup/development work."

1 & 2 Slot PCI

We have had great success using both Magma's 1 and 2 slot PCI expansion chassis', with a Sager notebook and Lynx Studio sound cards. We really like the ability to add 2 hard drives for storage in the 2 slot chassis. All have been rock-solid and have been used with both PCI and ExpressCard interface notebook computers, thus enjoying a long useful life over several computer updates. We are extremely happy with the Magma-Lynx-Sager configuration.
