The Patchogue Bank (now part of the Bank of America conglomerate) was first set-up in 1916, and this is the building they built. It still stands too and in a moment of wisdom the powers that be never painted over/removed the Patchogue Bank engraving on the frieze. Welcome to Patchogue.

The "re-vitalization" of Patchogue has been going on for as long as I can remember. This my town, this is Patchogue, but these photographs could probably have been taken in any of a thousand American towns. Meet Paul The Tailor. John Braiden's Beauty School, started in the late 1950s. Really elegant storefront, now it's empty and the windows are covered with Sesame Street blankets. Window outside Beauty School. Three empty stores on North Ocean Avenue (leads directly into the heart of the downtown area), formerly a shoe store, and a comic book store. More empty stores. Formerly "Ariyana Clothes", now this women's clothing store has no name. You can sort of see in the background the type of clothes this store specializes in, short skirts, tank tops, jeweled thongs, etc., which made this prominently displayed set of expanded commandments all the more appropriate.
