Installare Windows 8 Developer Preview su vSphere 5

Come descritto nel post precedente la versione Developer Preview di Windows 8 funziona sulle ultime versioni di VMware Workstation, ma non su vSphere (e neppure nell’ultima releast 5).
In realtà le ultime fix rendono possibile, benché non supportato, eseguirlo anche in una VM in esecuzione su ESXi 5, come riportato da:
- How to Run Windows 8 on vSphere 5 (for reals)
- Windows 8 Developer Preview on ESXi5
I passi sono:
- Assicurarsi di avere installato la patch ESXi500-201112001 (patch02) disponibile sul VMware patch repository. La build number che otterrete è: 515841
- Creare una VM Windows 7 o Windows 2008 R2 di default
You will also need to use e1000 network driver, VMXNET3 does not work - Attivare la funzione 3D della scheda video (richiede virtual hardware 8):
Edit your VM and under “Hardware->Video Card” enable 3D graphics support (this is required if you plan on running VMware Tools) - Installare Windows 8 usando la ISO
- Aspettare che l’installazione finisca
La fix che sembra risolvere il problema dell’installazione dovrebbere essere quella descritta in KB 2007671.
