Towards the end of 2011 Fetch Media was approached by Quooker, the leading manufacturer of boiling water taps. They had recently started a UK television advertising campaign which had worked brilliantly in terms of driving brand recognition and visits to their website. An increasing number of visitors were also accessing the Quooker website from mobile devices. However, one issue had become very apparent. Quooker’s website was predominantly built in Flash, and analysis quickly showed that 86% of the website visits were from smartphones that did not support Flash at all. This led to a very unsatisfactory user experience and ultimately…

There are more than just medals up for grabs at the upcoming Olympic Games. The influx of tourists the Olympics is expected to deliver translates into potential consumers for the UK economy. Retailers have already rushed to the new Westfield Stratford in anticipation for business the Olympics is expected to bring. Advertisers are also whetting their lips at the prospect of reaching vast audiences. What’s the catch? Most of these consumers will be spending significant amounts of time on the Olympic site, where advertising is strictly reserved for official Olympic sponsors. However, there is one dynamic advertising medium that overcomes…

Last year, at one of the various mobile summit/conferences/open days that I attended, I heard Russell Buckley of Eagle Eye Solutions talking about the unstoppable rise of the mobile device. Out of all the valuable pieces of information that Russell’s presentation contained, the thing that really stuck with me was how many common devices were being rendered obsolete due to the continuous improvement in mobile hardware spec. Among the various examples (the alarm clock, the MP3 player, the calculator etc.), Russell mentioned hand held gaming consoles as a product range that is increasingly threatened by mobile. We have all played…

  • fetchmedia

  • | January 20th |

  • Mobile Industry News

Our relationship with smartphones has recently been the subject of a number of studies by psychologists. Some even consider it as a ‘real’ addiction – in much the same way as detrimental vices. How many of the traits in this article do you recognise in yourself? According to recent research by Ofcom, 60% of teenagers have described themselves as ’highly addicted’ to their smartphone, with 47% of them (and 22% of adults) admitting to using their mobile device on the toilet… 23% of teenagers claim to watch less TV, whilst 15% admit they read fewer books. They are even playing less video…

In recent weeks, industry-insiders have been reflecting on many trends that shaped the mobile industry in 2011 and eagerly predicting future developments in the New Year. The consensus is that the future of mobile advertising continues to look bright. We at Fetch Media are equally excited, so we conducted a quick survey to find out which mobile marketing trends the Fetch team is keeping their eye on for 2012. Richard, our Business Development Director claims, “I am particularly interested in whether Facebook will put ads onto their mobile product next year. As an agency it would give us a new…

By Daniel Lyttleton Only a few weeks ago news broke that Carrier IQ mobile analytics software (apparently installed on over 140 million devices worldwide) was able to log users’ keystrokes and data traffic, making it able to record even the most private mobile usage. What this information is used for is not completely clear, but rumours that Carrier IQ provides this data to the FBI emerged just this week. Apple also found itself embroiled in the midst of a privacy debate earlier this year, when it was revealed that the location data tracked in iPhones was unencrypted, making it a…

We at Fetch have been discussing the virtues, of Siri, or lack of in some peoples’ eyes, over the last few weeks. Whilst being continually impressed at the accuracy of the voice recognition we have sometimes been surprised at how difficult it has been to provide correct answers to seemingly straightforward enquiries. So, we decided to put it to the test to ascertain how clever the app really is in the most high pressure situation of all. Our local pub quiz. And so it was that on Tuesday of last week the Libertine pub on Great Suffolk Street SE1 was…
