New Module: xEliza-1.0 Released!!
Posted on Friday 10 November 2006 - 16:51:28 by Andymon
Eliza is a c++ ChatBot by Gonzales Cenelia (www.ai-search.4t.com).
I have modified it a little bit to make it compatible to Litestep.
This version was several months on my harddisc and since someone might find it useful, I release it spacer

I have added two extra Pages at xdocs.ls-universe.info:
1. script.txt: Where everyone can enhance the main script with new Litestep knowlegde
2. unknown.txt: Where everyone can APPEND his unknown.txt, at this page you can search for keywords, which can be added later to script.txt

Why a ChatBot Module?
Well, obviously for offline chatting, but naturally this doesn't make much sense in a Litestep Module.
The purpose i have in mind is an Interactive Help System for themes (or Litestep, if we would have the people who would add Litestep knowledge into the "brain" of Eliza).

If someone writes the necessary "brain" for his theme, Eliza could answer questions about the theme!

Make sure you set the xElizaScriptPath to a folder which contains the script.txt otherwise the module will crash. But it won't affect Litestep or other modules, when it really crashes spacer

Example Conversation:
User: What is the Tray?
Eliza: What do you want to know about the Tray?
User: What module is used for the Tray?
Eliza: This theme uses xTray-2.0.
User: What's the name of this theme?
Eliza: This theme is called "Eliza".
User: I want to hide the tray.
Eliza: You can hide the tray by using by LeftClick on the button.
...

That conversation is totally fictional, but with the correct script.txt and a little bit luck xEliza will work this way!

State of the Step!
Posted on Tuesday 07 November 2006 - 17:15:49 by Andymon
Jugg has released a current "State of the Step" as overview about the current state and the future plans of the Litestep Core Development!

Good Work! Any news about the Core Development is really great!

I won't post the whole thing here, because people who are interested in reading it, should look on the Litestep Mailing List on their own!
The necessary infos about the Mailing List or the NewsGroup are on our Main News Site.

And for all the lazy rest of you: fractal.design has posted the complete "State of the Step" at litestep.net. spacer

Just an idea (based on a forum post spacer )!
Posted on Sunday 05 November 2006 - 19:38:33 by Andymon
What if the remaining themers unite to "Release Groups", i mean a graphics artist, with a LSLua coder and a "normal" theme worker, and whoever is needed or available.
And those groups make standalone theme suites, something like Popsicle, Obsidian, Nonstep, Gathering, and the rest of great work i have forgotten.

I think that might be a way in the future of Litestep.

Great, customizable themes, a shell that beats every other thing on the shell market.

I can make for instance a forum especially for such "Groups", i have offered small subdomains in the past, ... Just contact me.

As i said, thats just an idea. If someone wants to discuss this here or in the forum, good, otherwise it is just a "BlaBla" post spacer

xLabel-4.0.1 AlwaysonTop Problem Test Version!!
Posted on Saturday 04 November 2006 - 17:26:40 by Andymon
There seem to be some AlwaysOnTop Problems with the newest versions of xLabel, xTaskbar and xTray (use same code).
I have tried something and have removed one line of code in xLabel.

If the remaining themers who have problems with the zOrder could test this version and report the difference, i can break my rule and release the "fixed" versions for them.

The Test xLabel-4.0.1 is available here

P.S: Its awfully quiet, if i don't post my own news about Litestep spacer

iTunesStatEx-0.2 Released by D4rkDrago0n
Posted on Thursday 26 October 2006 - 16:55:01 by Andymon
Original Description:
Overview:
------------
iTunesStat Extended is a LiteStep module which will grab some simple stats
from iTunes and allow these stats to be viewable as a label.
xLabel, xLabelLight and LSLabel are supported.

This module is based on iTunesStat by Whitman. It aims to add a few more
features that are missing from iTunesStat. The aim of this project is to create
an iTunes communication module that is at least as good as WinAMP alternatives
(such as GeekAmp or DynAmp).
