Who we are:  Crystal, David, and kids.

Where we are:  Knoxville, TN

What we do:  Crystal – Stay at home mom, doggy foster mom, advocate, blogger, crafter

David – Group leader for a major manufacturer of automobile components, doggy foster dad

Kids – Students and all around great kids.

Why Foster Dogs:  Why not?  There are so many dogs that need a temporary place to stay while they await their forever home.  They need love and care, training, understanding, and a reprieve from their lives of misery and neglect.  We have a decent sized home, big hearts, and an abundance of love and understanding for dogs.

When we went public:  July 2011.  Though we had previously worked with rescues, we officially dedicated our cause to the Danes in early July of 2011.  We are in love with the breed, the rescues, and with the work that we are doing.

Are we non-profit: Not yet.  That is in the works.  There is a lot that goes into becoming a legitimate not for profit organization.  We are taking our time and making sure it is done right.

What we want to accomplish: We want to raise awareness and funds for Great Dane rescues.  This will generate some awareness for rescues in general but our hearts are in it for the Danes.  We also want to raise money.  Danes are not inexpensive to own.  Just feeding them is enough to break the bank at times.  When you factor in all the health issues that can come along…you can easily rack up vet bills for thousands and thousands of dollars.  We also want to do all we can to stop puppy mills and backyard breeders.  They are the ones inbreeding these dogs and slowly filtering out the quality bloodlines.  Money hungry and just wanting to sell dogs hand over fist is what these sick people are after.  Sick people = sick dogs.  It has to stop!

Our long term goal: We want to become facilitators for Great Dane rescues in our local area.  We want to take some of the administrative load off of the rescues so they can focus on actually rescuing dogs.  From checking references to doing home visits and transports, we want to lighten the load of the rescues so they can do what they were created to do.

Congratulations on the fine work you are doing for the Great Dane and other helpless dogs in our society. My heart has always been with stopping the abuse on dogs and the horrible puppy mills that literally breed sickness and ultimately death to these defenseless creatures. I want to help in any way that I can to end the abuse on dogs permanently.

    Crystal,
It’s amazing what you are doing. You’re a great and generous spirit!
These Danes deserve your love and care and creative mind. This last one, Buddy, is a touching story.
I’ve been rescuing Cornish Rex cats. I have 3 now, 2 of them are rescued. Cannot form a non-profit like you’re talking about, but always support the C.Rex missions.
    Thank you!
