The soul of music
By spotogspindel | February 19, 2012
This weekend I´ve enjoyed others´ creativity, being hostess for the Motown-project band. They are such good musicians, the soul music is SO cool, and it´s gonna be such a great concert! Very much looking forward to our concerts in 2 weeks time.
They rehearsed at the theatre, right next to my little office, so I had the coolest live music ever while I was framing pictures.

This makes me happy!
By spotogspindel | February 17, 2012
This little sequence from the blog Advanced Style makes me happy. The whole blog is quite uplifting! It is something so rare as a fashion blog for older women. At 43 I sometimes feel, well, not old, but not really young either, but seeing the wonderful women on this blog, makes me smile, thinking: where there is life there is not only hope, there can fun!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Stockholder note
By spotogspindel | February 16, 2012
Remember Kjøpholmen?
Here is the stockholder note that Lars and I made for the ones who donated 50,- or more. It´s just a fun little thing. With the copper-coins needed, the portrait of Cornelius Cruys and a picture of the island itself.

9. The front door is guarded by my Arizonan lizard door-knocker.
10. self-portrait. In the local newspaper last Monday. Couldn´t have taken a better self-portrait if I´d tried Through a glass-bowl with my art-friends.
11. makes me happy: stacks of silk fabric! For beauty and warmth.
12. inside my closet. Just a very small peak. No need to expose any more. This is pretty much the essence.
13. blue handmade glass from Egypt
14. heart self-made, all-year Christmas-hearts in silk brocades

the traveling viking
By spotogspindel | February 13, 2012
Inspired by Matthew Cusick´s art, I snumbled head-over-heels into my old world atlas, scissors first!
Old, as in out-dated. Countries have come and gone since this was new, when I was kid…
Well, since it´s all about vikings here these days, I thought I´d have a go at a map-portrait. Cut, glued and collaged down. I have to admit to a minor cheating. Even though my atlas is a big book, the maps are all in the same 6-8 colors, and I would have liked at least a couple more. So I did emphesize some of the colors with a light coat of fabric paint. I prefer fabric paint in this case, even though I´m painting on paper, because it is translucent, but more durable than water-color paint. What do you think? Does he look fierce to you?
And by the way, does anybody know what the vikings called Russia?

vikings
By spotogspindel | February 12, 2012
Last week I delivered art for Stril Polar, this week it´s time to concentrate my attention to Viking Prince. I´ve already started, with good help from the 6th grade at Hasund Elementary School. Today I started piecing together their big viking-quilt. I need to stock up on my supply of velcro and backing-fabric to finish it, but here is a little appetizer:
I really do love the “immediateness” in kid´s art. It´s so expressive and fearless.

Art-in-Natur: Kjopholmen
By spotogspindel | February 11, 2012
Bømlo art group is celebrating it´s 30th anniversary this year. Double the amount of exhibitions, workshops, and a big Art-In-nature project. This is SO cool to be a part of!
If you can read in Norwegian, click on the pictures, and read for yourself. For the rest of you, I´ll give a short introduction.
There is an old story that Peter the great, the tzar of Russia, in the beginning of the 18th century wanted a marine base on the west-coast of Norway, to make things easier for himself conquering and shipping. His admiral was from Stavanger, Cornelius Crøys, and on the tzar´s behalf he wanted to buy a little island in the northern part of Bømlo. The island isn´t big, but the sea is quite deep right up unto the shore, and the sea is relatively calm around there. So he offered to buy the island, but the owner didn´t want to sell. He offered again to buy the island, telling the owner he would get so much money, he could cover the entire island in silver coins. However the owner refused to sell. Finally Cornelius said, he´d give the owner so much money, he would be able to cover the entire island in standing silver coins. The owner still refused, and the tzar never got his Norwegian marine-base.
This island, called Kjøpholmen (“the buying-island”) from the incident, is now owned by Lisbeth (on top in the first picture). She is not as difficult as the old fisherman, and has agreed that we can finally cover the island in coins! So now we´ve started a collection of copper-coins, that later this spring will be semented down along the shores of the little island. In short, we are turning history into an attraction!
How cool is that?!! Art trumps military!!!
I will of course keep you posted during the spring on the process of Kjøpholmen!

Stril Polar
By spotogspindel | February 10, 2012
Today is the Christening of STRIL POLAR. Earlier this week I was onboard getting all the artwork in place. So let me show you the ship and the art:
Let´s start in the mess. This picture of a sea-house from Hareid.
Another little sea-house, this one in Dimna.
And this is what they look like up on the walls.
Right next to the mess is the smokers lounge, there´s even a window between the two rooms.
The most famous attraction in Stavanger is the big sculpture called “Swords in rock” in Hafrsfjord. They are absolutely beautiful, so symbolic towards Norwegian history, and did I mention beautiful?
So this is my inspiration for this picture.
Right next door again there is another lounge. In here you find two more pictures:
Moving south to the Stavanger area, this is in Hå.
This picture is at least partly from Runde, as seen from Flø, in Sunnmøre.
Sorry, the lighting is not so good on the next couple of photos, but you see the pictures in their surroundings.
In the conference room this landscape from Sunnmøre is decorating the wall. It´s simply called “The ferry”. Only when you grow up and live in the islands and coastal area in a country like Norway do you truly appreciate the importance of this “life-line” that the ferry actually is. Still today, there are a lot of people dependent on the ferry to get to a hospital for instance.
And on the wall (in the still-partly-a-storage-room-before-everything-is-ready-for-the-big-day!)
This sea-house lies in Dåfjorden in Fitjar, one of my neighboring islands. There are so many new and boring sea-houses, and constantly fewer old ones with character.
It decorates the Captain´s cabin.
And finally, the picture in the Chief officer´s cabin, from Lofoten.
It´s such a beautiful supply ship, and I do wish Møkster and the crew onboard all the best of luck as they start their work outside Hammerfest next month!
