The concept for Cake Couture was developed in 2007 after Mindy Touhey decided to take on the task of making her daughter’s first birthday cake. Since there were no “how to” manuals for making a Scottish Terrier cake, Mindy had no choice but to figure out a way. Realizing that she may have a talent for designing custom cakes, Mindy continued to work on her skills by designing cakes for family and friends. She often joked that she would one day be trading in her education hat for a baking hat. Gradually, word began to spread and outside requests started coming in. Cake Couture was officially established in 2010 and is quickly becoming one of the premier custom cake shops in the Philadelphia region. As the demand for Cake Couture’s services increased, the need for a larger facility became evident. In February of 2012, Cake Couture will be relocating to 117 North Main Street in Spring City, PA. The new facility will feature a state-of-the art kitchen with a large studio space for decorating and a spacious consulting area for clients.
