Very Inspiring Blogger? (A Special Post)

Feb 5

Posted by jmmcdowell

spacer That’s not how a modest girl from the Midwest would describe herself.

But the other day, the lovely Kourtney Heintz nominated me for that very award. And I thank her very much for the honor! She was also so kind as to confer the Kreativ Blogger award as well. I already posted on that one some time back (you can see my nominees here), so I’ll focus on the VIB Award in this post.

The rules are fairly straightforward for this award. Link back to the person who gave you the award. Done! Then share 7 things about yourself and nominate 14 bloggers for the award. I’m going to cheat. I know — that’s not a very Midwestern thing to do spacer

But I just handed out a slew of awards on Thursday, and I don’t want to overwhelm recent awardees with more work. So my nominee list will be shorter. But they are all deserving, and I hope you’ll pay them a visit if you haven’t already.

7 Things About Myself

(Boy, it’s hard to do this. I want to keep an air of mystery about me, and I don’t think I’m all that interesting. spacer )

  1. I used to play the piano and flute.
  2. I probably read every Agatha Christie mystery before I was 16.
  3. I’d bet I was the only 3rd grader in my hometown who could spell Czechoslovakia.
  4. Every time I was thrown from a horse, I got back on.
  5. My husband and I love hopping on the Metro for a day/evening in DC. Jaleo—Friday night tapas—amazing! (If you’re a young urbanite, the city is for you. Seriously.)
  6. I’ve done a ton of genealogical research on my family (real research, not copying someone’s tree from Ancestry.com).
  7. I worry that I’ll run out of ideas for blog posts.

And the Nominees Are…

  1. Write Am I
  2. Limebird Writers
  3. ficfaq
  4. 4amwriter
  5. Bringing You Beirut
  6. The Write Transition (okay, I’ll overwhelm Carrie — but, hey, she got Freshly Pressed! That’s inspiring! The Holy Grail of WordPress!)

A Special Mention

Some bloggers prefer not to take part in the Awards. I understand that and respect their wishes. But if you haven’t yet visited fivereflections and read his Haiku and Tanka, please hop over there right now. Anyone who can make the cold dark of winter seem warm, inviting, and bright has an incredible gift with words.

And A Quick Note

If you didn’t see all the comments on yesterday’s post, I accepted Snagglewordz’s double dare to put my archaeological clip into fiction format (sort of). What I did was to put in a clip from Death Out of Time where Madeleine is doing artifact analysis. It shows my attempt to get that real “flavor” into a palatable form. It’s the 6th main post down if you’d like to compare the two styles.

As always, thank you so much! You have helped fuel my blog with your award nominations and frequent visits/comments, and I appreciate it beyond words. When my FP wraps up, I’ll get going on a post for both the Sunshine award and now this one. Thank you again, and keep up the great work. Always love checking out your site!

And as always, you completely deserve the award! I looked in at your FP post again and am just amazed at how you were able to address each of those comments in an individual way. And also realized I was lucky enough to be the first one to comment on the post!

When people start reading your book and find your blog through it, I think you’ll keep a lot of them coming back with your posts and voice. Your blog really reads like one friend talking to another. I hope your agent, at least, has already told you that!

Like Carrie above, you totally deserve it, too!

I just FB’d a cousin who read it and told her the best thing about doing my blog is the interaction and conversations with other writers on our posts. Blogs like yours help me with my writing and remind me that there really are nice and helpful people in the world.

      Have a great day!

Thank you! Just the thought that what you write about is read by others is reward enough. To be acknowledged, well, that takes the cake!

You are very welcome! I am always amazed when someone new likes a post or follows my blog. It drives me to keep my content fresh and interesting. And I often worry that I won’t be able to do that.

But I find inspiration and ideas from blogs like yours and the others I’ve nominated for these awards. I always look forward to your next post.

You’re so welcome, Beth. Limebird has really resonated with so many people! In less than 6 months you’ve attracted nearly 400 followers and more than 17,000 hits. That is awesome. And as I told 4amwriter (aka limebirdkate) on her blog, getting up at that time to write is definitely inspiring!

Looking forward to many more of your posts!

You’re very welcome! Too good to you? Not at all. Your posts take people to Beirut to see what it’s really like. That is great talent. And I’ll bet you will have the same ability with the next place that life takes you. Live it — and please keep sharing it!
