Roundup of Plastic-Free February Posts

Plastic-Free February [a.k.a. Plastic Awareness Month] has come to an end. I think the main takeaway from the challenge is how very saturated our lives are with plastic. I ended up getting to about half of the post ideas I had planned, so you'll be seeing more Plastic-Free and Plastic Awareness Posts in the coming weeks.  If you haven't yet, be sure to enter the 2 giveaways (reusable sandwich bags and wood toys) mentioned below.

Plastic-Free February
The post that started it all!  In this post, I discuss Rodale's Plastic-Free February Challenge, as well as the rules for my own modified version of the challenge (Plastic Awareness Month).

My Plastic-Filled Week
During the first week of the challenge, I paid special attention to our plastic use and plastic purchases.

My Plastic Rules
The informal rules that govern my use of plastic.  I pay special attention to plastic use with food and plastic that my kids use.

Plastic Alternative: Wool
Maybe you don't need as much plastic in your life as you thought.  Check out my ideas for wool products that could replace your waterproof plastic ones.

Goodbye, Teflon. Hello, Le Creuset.
One of the last Teflon holdouts in my kitchen was my nonstick 10" skillet, in which I made scrambled eggs several times a week.  Read all about the pan that let me forget about plastic nonstick coatings.

Do I Need to Become Vegan to Live Plastic-Free?
After the second week, I made a few changes to our grocery shopping to reduce our plastic waste, and became aware of how almost all meat and dairy is packaged in plastic.

Etsy Reusable Sandwich Bags Giveaway and Review (12 Stores, 6 Winners)
End your disposable baggy habit by investing in reusable sandwich bags.  Have you entered the giveaway yet?  There's still time!  It's as easy as leaving a comment.

Heirloom Wooden Toys (Plastic-Free Fun)
This post is a Q & A with Kitty Morse, one of the owners of Heirloom Wooden Toys, one of my favorite toy stores because almost everything they sell is a wood toy.  You might want to tell the grandparents about this store to subtly encourage more plastic-free gifts in the future.  I love wood toys!

Homemade 100% Whole Wheat Honey Bread (without a bread machine)
One of the other last holdouts (besides my nonstick skillet - see above) of Teflon in my kitchen was the bread pan of my bread maker.  When it started showing scratches and signs of wear and the weather turned colder, I decided to try mixing my bread in a standing mixer and baking it in the oven instead.  Making your own anything (and reusing your container) reduces a lot of plastic garbage and recycling!

Green Cleaning - DIY Cleaning Recipes

I haven't ventured too far beyond vinegar in my DIY cleaning efforts, but I have compiled an awesome list of resources for DIY cleaning recipes.

Heirloom Wooden Toys Giveaway and Review
Do you love wood toys like I do?  Be sure and enter this giveaway.

Stay tuned for my very next plastic-free post:  My Plastic-Free Goals.

I really enjoyed your plastic free posts. Brought a whole lot of awareness to my daily use of plastics and what to watch out for. I guess I was never really paying enough attention in the past.
