Nominate a River Hero

The Boathouse at Rockett’s Landing and Friends of James River Park are once again co-sponsoring a contest to name our region’s River Heroes. We hope to bring attention to the magnificent, scenic river that runs through Richmond and to those who have worked to make the James River a better place for both people and wildlife.

Last year's winners were Mike Ostrander of Discover the James, Passages Adventure Camp, and Seven Hills Middle School for Boys, and they will help judge this year's contest.

Winners will receive a gift certificate to The Boathouse at Rockett's Landing, Friends of James River Park membership and t-shirt, a Real Richmond food tour gift certificate and a Discover the James eagle tour gift certificate. Let's show a new crop of nominees some LOVE!

Who’s Eligible?

Everyone living and working in the Richmond metro area, including students, volunteers, business community members, educators, and civil servants. Friends of James River Park board members, previous winners, and employees of The Boathouse are not eligible. No age limit on nominees.

What’s the Process?

Fill out our form (online or paper) to nominate a person or organization. Judging will be done by board members of Friends of James River Park and previous River Heroes.

What’s the Deadline?

Nominations are accepted February 14 through March 14, 2012. Winners will be selected by April 4 and announced on Earth Day.
