spacer The Hampton University Skin of Color Research Institute is proud to follow on the success of its inaugural Skin of Color Symposium with From Bench to Bedside: Future Directions. The 2011 research symposium on cutaneous diseases affecting patients with skin of color which will be held October 7-9, 2011 in beautiful Hampton VA, a waterfront community centrally located between Colonial Williamsburg and the Virginia Beach oceanfront. The HUSCRI Symposium 2011 is hosted by Hampton University Skin of Color Research Institute with Eastern Virginia Medical School, Department of Dermatology and sponsored by Eastern Virginia Medical School Office of Continuing Medical Education.

Program directors Valerie M. Harvey, M.D., David H. McDaniel, M.D. and Meena Katdare, Ph.D., have developed an outstanding educational event that is designed to appeal to clinicians, researchers and health professionals across scientific, medical and technological disciplines.

Symposium attendees will develop a deeper understanding of the basic research, latest treatments and newest tools in pigment cell biology, keloids, aging, imaging, and systemic diseases with cutaneous manifestations that disproportionately impact people with skin of color. About the Organizers

Dr. Valerie Harvey is an Assistant Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in the Department of Dermatology and holds an adjunct faculty position at Hampton University. Dr. David McDaniel is an experienced researcher, mentor, and clinician who is also an adjunct faculty member at EVMS and HU. Selected by his peers to be included in The Best Doctors in America, Dr. McDaniel is a pioneer in the use of lasers in dermatology, holding patents on several new techniques and treatments. Dr. Meena Katdare is the Scientific Director for the HU Skin of Color Research Institute. Dr. Katdare is an HU faculty member and holds an adjunct faculty position at EVMS. Dr. Katdare has made pioneering contributions towards developing natural less-toxic therapies for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Her broad range of scientific knowledge in the field of nutrition, cancer prevention, cell and molecular biology proves an unprecedented foundation as she transitions to lead the research program at the HUSCRI.
